So…I’ve lasted a year, now what?

A year has come and gone. 365 days. 27 episodes. What to do now?

I keep going, of course. No reason to stop. I wish that I had more listeners, but as long as a few are listening, I will continue.

I wish that this show paid for itself, through ads or Patreon/Ko-fi donations. But it doesn’t. It does however have fringe benefits.

Press passes for one, I suppose someone could argue that the free admission I get more than makes up for the money I put into the podcast, and they are probably right.

Another benefit is getting to talk to people. There are interviews with people of all stripes, Famous and Unfamous.

So what now? Now we evolve. I have decided to split the podcast in two. The Star Trek and Star Wars news will be joined by any Sci-fi or Fantasy news I find into Multiverse Tonight Sci-Fi Edition. The DC, Marvel and other comics related news stories will be put together into Multiverse Tonight Comics Edition. These will still be put out every other week with the Sci-Fi edition on Tuesdays and The Comics Edition out on Thursday.

By the way, if you’d like to lend me a hand, I’d like to give you something. If you donate to my Patreon or Ko-fi, you can win a box of loot from me. Just click on the link at the top labeled “Donate”

So, get ready everyone, Year Two has begun!

Episode Twenty-Five: After The Endgame, What’s Next?

Tonight! Avengers Endgame breaks records like the Hulk breaks pants, California recognizes Star Wars Day and we say goodbye to everyone’s favorite wookie actor on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Welcome to the show! I’m your host Thomas Townley! I hope you’ve seen Endgame, it was 3 hours well spent. Now that you’ve seen Avengers Endgame, what’s next? Spider-man Far From Home? Star Wars? More streaming services than you have hours in the day?

By the way, we are just two episodes away from our one year anniversary…

Check out MultiverseTonight.com to see show notes, affiliate links, the occasional original column and much much more.

Let’s start with the Marvel News

Avengers Endgame rocked the box office to its knees. Bringing in 1.2 billion dollars in its opening weekend worldwide. And in it’s second weekend, it’s up to $2,188,698,638. Could it make it to three million next weekend? It now holds the records for Worldwide opening, foreign opening weekend, opening day gross, single day gross, and single day friday, saturday and sunday gross, april opening weekend, spring opening weekend, top 3 day and top 4 day gross and many many more.  It’s competition from the previous weeks, The Curse of La Llorona and Shazam saw drops of over 60 percent while the new Pet Sematary remake so a drop of 72 percent. Needless to say, Avengers made all the money and will probably keep making money for sometime until the next big summer blockbuster which ever one that is.

By the way, have you noticed that not many spoilers have been bandied about? Here’s a cautionary tale out of Hong Kong to make you think twice of opening your big mouth outside a theater. Asia One reports that a man was assaulted outside a Hong Kong theater for loudly exposing major Endgame spoilers to those in line for the movie..

If that doesn’t make you keep quiet maybe this will, Directors Joe and Anthony Russo penned a letter to fans saying quote “Because so many of you have invested your time, your hearts, and your souls into these stories, we’re once again asking for your help,” the letter reads in part. “When you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it spoiled for you. Remember, Thanos still demands your silence.” quote So shhhhhhh.

And for those theater workers out there who kept theaters clean, popcorn popped and lines moving, Mark ruffalo has a message for you quote “Thank you to everyone that went to see Endgame this weekend, reminding us how great it is to watch movies with others,” Ruffalo said. “And a special thank you to the people working at theaters this weekend. Love you 3000.” unquote

By the way, according to the Hollywood Reporter, a big winner financially in all this is Robert Downey Jr. Who will walk away with a 75 million dollar payout from backend profits on Endgame. It’s good to be the Iron Man.

Well with one movie done, another must be made.According to the Hollywood reporter,  Guardians of the galaxy 3 will start filming in 2020 with one of three possible release dates in 2021, February 12th, May 7th or November 5th. Personally I’m pulling for February. It’s a couple of days before my birthday.

Now last episode we talked about Disney Plus and it’s myriad of MCU shows. Well  We now know how many episodes the first seasons of those shows will be. According to the hollywood reporter , Loki, Falcon and Winter Soldier and Scarlet Vision will each have six to eight episode seasons. This info comes from the stars contracts, which were negotiated separately from their movie contracts. Just a reminder, Disney Plus will launch on November 12th.

Meanwhile over at Sony Pictures. The studio has signed Phil Lord and Chris Miller to a five year deal worth nine figures to start after their current Fox contract expires.  The new deal will see the Spider-verse makers create and develop comedy and drama projects of their own creation for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms as well as oversee other writers projects. They will also be making tv projects based on the Sony MCU characters including Spider-man, Venom, Morbius, Black Cat and Silver Sable.  Lord and Miller said in a statement quote “We are so grateful to everyone at Sony Pictures Television for choosing to partner with us and expand our enduring relationship with the studio,” “Together we aim to make groundbreaking work of the highest quality and integrity, and to place that work in convenient proximity to your eyeballs and ear holes, wherever you may be.”

Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson has been an outspoken advocate for diversity in the movie business. Now she has a few thoughts on creating a more diverse future for the MCU. On Variety’s Big Ticket podcast, Brie responded to host Marc Malkin talking about the notion that he never thought that he’d see an LGBT hero when he was growing up. She responded quote “That breaks my heart to hear that, because there’s no reason,” “I don’t understand how you could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to me it’s like, we gotta move faster. But I’m always wanting to move faster with this stuff.”“It wasn’t enough for me to just look strong on a poster; it needed to extend further than that,” “I feel like I can’t at the end of the day go to sleep at night if I didn’t do everything that I possibly could.”” Unquote

She also expressed gratitude over Captain Marvel’s success at the box office. Quote “I’m happy to be on the forefront of the normalization of this type of content and to prove once again that representation matters. Diverse storytelling matters, the female experience matters, and these are markers,”. “So it’s something I’ve always known and I think a lot of people always knew, but this is just normalizing.” The next phase is expected to be more diverse with upcoming movies like Shang-Chi, Eternals and Black Panther 2.

Disney is taking full advantage of being the majority owner of Hulu. Disney owns sixty percent of the streaming service.  Today Hulu announced that it’s 28 million subscribers will have the pleasure of seeing Gabriel Luna return to the role of Ghost Rider in a new series. Interestingly enough, he won’t be the same Ghost Rider from Agents of Shield. Also announced Marvel’s Helstrom. Hellstrom is about Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The two use their complicated dynamic, attitude and skills to track down the worst of humanity. Paul Zbyszewski executive producer and showrunner said in the official announcement quote “As a lifelong Marvel fan, I feel incredibly fortunate to help bring this darker, thrilling corner of the comic book universe to life, and I’m just grateful to everyone at Marvel Television and Hulu for the opportunity,” “Marvel’s known for all the heart, humor, and action they put into every series, but this time around we’re adding some scares to that mix. I think we’ve found a compelling way to dissect some of our deepest fears through the experiences of our two lead characters.”

“We’re thrilled Hulu will be moving into a new—admittedly chilling—corner of the Marvel Universe with GHOST RIDER and HELSTROM. Paul and Ingrid are crafting gripping adventures into fear that live in our SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE cornerstone.”

These two series joining the third season of Marvel’s Runaways, and new animated series M.O.D.O.K., Hit Monkey, Tigra and Dazzler and Howard the Duck. The four animated series will join together to become The Offenders.

Sounds fun.

We would like to shout out some congratulations to Heimdall himself, Idris Elba back on April 26th, he tied the not to Sabrina Dhowre. According to the British edition of Vogue, they were married in Morocco. Congrats to the happy couple.

And speaking of happy couples, Surprise. Captain Marvel star Jude Law tied the knot with his fiancee Phillipa Coan on April 30th in a surprise wedding. The couple got wed in London with only a select number of the couples friends and family attending. This is Jude’s second marriage. Congratulations.

DC Comics

I know that most eyeballs have been on Marvel lately, but DC also has news so…

Variety reports that James Gunn’s The  Suicide Squad has added Daniela Melchior for the role of Ratcatcher. This would be a gender swap fro the Batman villain. The member of The Rogues Gallery was a rat catcher who discovered that he could actually control rats and used them to commit crimes. She joins Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Idris Elba. Also new to the cast will be Ant-man vet David Dastmalchian who will be taking up the mantle of D list villain Polka Dot Man and John Cena stepping up as Peacemaker. The movie should start filming soon and will hit theaters in August of 2021.

DC is adding another new book to their DC Zoom imprint. The book called Dear Justice League puts the heroes of the DCU answering questions from their biggest fans. The book is written by Michael Northrop and illustrated by Gustavo Duarte DC put up a trailer, lets watch.

https://youtu.be/35tW9oC2fF0

The description for the book is quote The greatest heroes in the DC universe, the Justice League, answer mail from their biggest fans–kids!–courtesy of Michael Northrop, New York Times bestselling author of TombQuest, and artist Gustavo Duarte.Does Superman ever make mistakes? What was Wonder Woman’s eleventh birthday like? Does Aquaman smell like fish? In this new middle-grade graphic novel, iconic heroes are asked questions both big and small, and when they are not busy saving the world, the Justice League even finds time to respond. Their honest and humorous answers will surprise and delight readers of any age, as it turns out that being a superhero is not too different from being a kid.

Full of feats, follies, and colorful illustrations, Dear Justice League gives readers the inside scoop into everyday heroics, no matter who wears the cape!”

Dear Justice League hits stores on August 6th and will retail for $9.99.

Kinda looks interesting.

DC Comics has announced Batman/Superman a new series to be written by Joshua Williamson and featuring art from debut artist David Marquez. The series is a follow up to The Batman Who Laughs miniseries and focuses on a version of Batman from the Dark Multiverse that was corrupted by the Joker toxin and became a villain. Now he has a plan. Williams told the hollywood reporter“We discover, through the Batman Who Laughs series that the Batman Who Laughs have been working on this massive plan since [Dark Nights: Metal],” “What it is is, he has sleeper agents throughout the [DC Universe]. They’ve been infected, and they’re slowly turning into the worst versions of themselves. Some of them know they’re changing, some don’t. Some aren’t aware it’s kind of like a Jekyll and Hyde situation where they’re not aware of [what] the other side is doing. “This is happening to six people — we’ve been calling them the new Secret Six — who have been turned. But who could be turned? Who are they? [Batman and Superman] have to go out and figure it out. But that means spying on other heroes, friends, allies. We talked about the end of The Thing, where it’s the two of them and they’re like, ‘It could be you, it could be me, but now we have to work together.’” He went on to tell the reporter that unraveling the mystery is the core of the book, but the mystery will also spread out to other books.

Sounds like Batman and Superman trying to find the secret cylons, doesn’t it.

Arrow Star Stephen Amell has faced down many a bad guy on Arrow. But the real Amell hates one thing at home. Leaf Blowers. Stephen tood to twitter to voice his frustrations quote “A person in my neighborhood has been blasting a leaf blower on a property that’s under construction for the past 40 minutes. I’m home for the first time in months and I’m wandering around in my undies. Hope your lot is clean FOR NO F****** REASON.” “I can’t even begin to explain how much I hate leaf blowers. I hate leaf blowers just a little less than I love my daughter,” However Elon Musk might have a solution to his dilemma. Elon recently revealed on twitter that quote Tesla is going to develop a quiet, electric leaf blower unquote Stephen tweeted back “I humbly offer you my first born son,” unquote  I don’t know if that’s a even trade. I’m pretty sure Elon can build a son…probably using the leaf blower.

Star Wars

So have you seen the trailer for Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker, if you saw it in the first 24 hours after it was released, you’re not alone. According to a report from Deadline, one hundred eleven million views were recorded by Youtube, that beat out  The Last jedis 91 million viewers and is more than double The Force Awakens numbers. That’s pretty impressive but falls short of the numbers for the trailers for Avengers Infinity War and Endgame which both had more than 238 and 289 million respectively. Still those numbers are Youtube only.

May the 4th as long been known as Star Wars day for years now and now The California State  Assembly has introduced a Resolution declaring May 4, 2019 as “Star Wars Day.”

The Assembly drafted the Resolution in advance of Disneyland’s new “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge”

And speaking of Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s Hollywood Studios put out an open casting call for people to play “gatherers” in Savi’s Workshop inside the land’s Black Spire Outpost.

The casting call read as follows quote

We close Star Wars news on a sad note Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca has passed away. The following was posted on his facebook page. Quote

The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away.  He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home.

Peter was the man behind the mask of Chewbacca in the original Star Wars trilogy, episode 3 of the prequels, and the New Trilogy. He fought his way back from being wheelchair-bound to stand tall and portray Chewbacca once more in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  He also consulted on The Last Jedi in an attempt to teach his successor. He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth.  But, to him, the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film.

The relationships that began then grew into the friends and family that he would love for decades to come.  As the films released and became more well-known he had his eyes opened to the possibilities of what he could achieve with his role in the Star Wars universe.  For more than 30 years Peter traveled all over the world spending time with his fans and friends. Peter developed lifelong friendships with the other cast members and his fans while on the convention circuit touching the lives of millions.  As he realized over the years the impact he could have, he became heavily involved with the 501st legion, Wounded Warriors, Make-a-Wish, and other non-profit organizations.

To this end, he established the Peter Mayhew Foundation, supporting everything from individuals and families in crisis situations to food and supplies for children of Venezuela during their recent road to freedom. He not only provided funds but became personally involved with each individual, family and cause he supported.

As he grew older he continued to “soldier on” as he put it and was completely in his element around his fans and supporters. He grew great strength from the energy of his family, friends and the fans he knew and loved.

He is survived by his wife Angie and three children. His kindness, generosity and care will live on in the Peter Mayhew Foundation with Angie taking the helm as his voice.

There will be a memorial service for friends and family held on June 29th and in early December in Los Angeles there will be a memorial for fans set up with his family in attendance, personal effects, and collection at EmpireConLA.

For additional information, information on the memorials or to offer condolences email ryan@ReelAppearances.com

Rather than gifts and flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the foundation so that they can continue his efforts to help the community.  You can donate at http://petermayhewfoundation.org/make-a-donation.php

I got to see him once at Planet Comicon a few years ago. He was a really nice guy. Our condolences to his family and Star wars fans everywhere.

Star Trek news

CBS and Viacom might be headed towards a reunion. Bloomberg reports that CBS is no longer looking for a permanent successor for former CEO Les Moonves. Instead Joe Ianniello, who was Moonves’s former number 2 will continue as acting CEO till the end of the year.

Bloomberg speculates that this could be signaling that CBS is prepared to merge back with Viacom, as CBS wouldn’t probably be looking for a new CEO while trying to negotiate a deal with Viacom at the same time. A merger would be good for both Viacom and CBS so that they can be on a larger footing to compete with Disney and Warner Media.

On the subject of CBS, Star Trek has announced that it’s launching a Star Trek global franchise group. This new division will manage and maximize the expansion of the Star Trek brand beyond broadcasting and streaming. Including  podcasts, new digital spaces and live experiential events.

Leading this new unit will be Veronica Hart who will serve as Executive Vice President of Star Trek Global Franchise Management. In other words, she’s kind of Alex Kurtzman’s boss. Alex Kurtzman said in a statement. Quote “As we expand the Trekverse, Veronica’s team and Secret Hideout are dedicated to broadening ‘Star Trek’s’ brand reach by amplifying its core values globally: empowerment, inclusion, imagination, and above all, the exceptional storytelling that’s inspired generations of fans,” unquote .

Exceptional storytelling. Exceptional. Storytelling. Let’s just meditate on those words, shall we Alex? Anyway.

And while we’re hoping for exceptional storytelling, CBS Television Studios has announced that it has greenlight a new Star Trek animated series, but not for All Access but for Nickelodeon. The show is seen as an opportunity to get younger kids into Star Trek. The show is being developed by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman. The as of yet named CG animated show will follow a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation. The series  comes from CBS Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers alongside Kevin and Dan Hageman. Aaron Baiers will serve as a co-executive producer. In a statement Alex Kurtzman said quote “‘Star Trek’s’ mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future,” “Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek’ to a younger generation around the world.”

The show joins an adult animated comedy called Lower Decks that will air on All Access.

Star Trek Online is bringing back Jason Isaacs as non Mirror Captain Gabriel Lorca and Reka Sharma as Commander Ellen Landry back to life. Perfect World and Cryptic Studios announced Star Trek Online major update Rise of Discovery will hit servers on PC on May 14th. Players will get to fight alongside the USS Buran and get a look at Landry and Loraca before they joined the crew of the Discovery. The new update will also introduce a brand new reputation and a ship system update that will allow players to level up Tier 6 ships with their characters. Let’s watch the trailer https://youtu.be/OEjGJaxgdgI

Variety reports that Ethan Phillips is joining the cast of a new space comedy for HBO. Avenue 5 comes from Veep creator Armando Iannucci and is described as a space tourism comedy set 40 years in the future. THe show stars Hugh Laurie as the captain of the space cruise ship Avenue 5 and also stars Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka, Rebecca Front, Lenora Crichlow, and Suzy Nakamura.

Ethan will play a character named Spike Martin, an elderly space enthusiast and former astronaut. Spike is described as quote  “a grizzled womanizer and heavy drinker who is also surprisingly good with kids. Spike thinks he should have a higher status due to his achievements as an astronaut, but not many people know who he is. He often boasts of being the first Canadian to land on Mars, which isn’t strictly true.” unquote

So you finished Season Two of Discovery and thought what to do now. IDW has your answer, a season 2.5 miniseries called Star Trek Discovery Aftermath. The three-issue series comes from previous Discovery mini-series writers Kristen Beyer,  Mike Johnson. With Art by Tony Shasteen. According to Mike Johnson quote “The new series shows how Pike, Spock, L’Rell, and the rest of the cast deal with the fallout from the mind-blowing events of Season Two,” say “And we couldn’t be happier that Tony Shasteen is beaming back onboard for this story!” unquote

Editor Chase Marotz added quote “To be able to follow up on the huge status-quo shift presented in that finale is a dream come true, especially with a team as talented as Kirsten, Mike, and Tony,”. “In terms of fitting into the broader universe presented in Discovery, this new series is perhaps our most essential yet, and I can’t wait for everybody to see what we’ve got in store for them.” Unquote

You know, one thing we haven’t heard much about lately is Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek project.  It was assigned to screenwriter Mark L Smith in December of 2017 and since than all has been quiet on that front.  However Quinten was asked about it by Slash Film quote : I feel like I have to ask this even though I don’t know if you’ll want to answer. But are you going to make a Star Trek movie? Is there any truth to that?

Quinten : It’s a very big possibility. I haven’t been dealing with those guys for a while cause I’ve been making my movie. But we’ve talked about a story and a script. The script has been written and when I emerge my head like Punxsutawney Phil, post-Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we’ll pick up talking about it again. Unquote

Once Upon a Time will be released this summer, so i guess only time will tell.

Nichelle Nichols is on the final leg of her convention farewell tour. Her final appearance is set for May 2020 and Nichelle would like to ttel her life story with a biographical documentary titled Breaking Barriers. With the help of Atomic Network, An Indiegogo campaign has been launched to assist with financing the production. The campaign has a goal of  $25,000, it’s about half way there with only a few days left in the campaign. If you’d like to donate as little as $5 just look up the campaign on Indiegogo or find the link in our show notes. The campaign ends on the tenth.

Geek News

Game of Thrones is busy on it’s wind down tour. The cast is making a good pay day for these last 6 episodes. According to IndieWire, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau each received $500,000 per episode, while co-stars Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Isaac Hempstead Wright each received $175,000 per episode. I take half those paychecks anyday.

Netflix has killed it’s zombie comedy The Santa Clarita Diet. The third season just dropped a couple of months ago.  This came has a bit of shock as it seemed to be one of Netflix’s tentpole properties. In a statement, Netflix said, “The world had never known a ‘zom-com’ until Santa Clarita Diet, and we’re indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix,” “To their endless credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally game, with an uncanny knack for comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to vibrant life, even though one of them was undead. We’re grateful to Victor, Drew, and Timothy, along with fellow executive producers Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell and the terrific cast, including Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, and crew for three hilarious seasons for Netflix members to discover for years to come.”

Stars Timothy Oliphant and Drew Barrymore responded in a statement to the Hollywood reporter. Drew Barrymore said quote Of all of the characters I’ve ever been, Sheila Hammond is one of my favorites,”  “She and Joel were an amazing couple, who had shared goals. And I am lucky to have worked alongside Tim Olyphant. It was an honor to get to do something so delightful. Sheila lives forever in me. And I am grateful to Victor Fresco, who created a world so unique.” unquote

Timothy Oliphant in his statement said quote “I loved working on this show. I’m going to continue coming in and doing scenes. If they don’t want to film it, that’s up to them.” unquote

The Nintendo 3DS is at its End of Life. Nintendo has  confirmed that it has nothing new to announce regarding first-party software for the Nintendo 3DS. And while there’s still new software from third-party publishers in the pipeline, it looks like Nintendo is moving on. The 3DS first came out in 2011. It was not as big of a seller as its predecessor, it still was well received by fans. Of course, given that the Nintendo Switch is both a handheld and a home console system kind of made the 3DS obsolete. Farewell 3DS.

The Critters are back. The film series which debut with the first Critters movie in 1986 starring Dee Wallace and M. Emmet Walsh. Critters featured creatures from outer space that were cute looking but had rows and rows of sharp teeth that land on Earth as they attempt to escape intergalactic bounty hunters. It’s had many sequels including a new one Critters Attack! Which is the fifth film in the series. It will debut on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on July 23rd.

Here’s the description quote “Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), who starred in the original Critters as Helen Brown, will sink her teeth into the franchise for a second time in the mysterious role of Aunt Dee. Inspired by the film series from the ’80s and ’90s, Critters follows 20-year-old Drea (Tashiana Washington), who reluctantly takes a job babysitting for a professor of a college she hopes to attend. Struggling to entertain the professor’s children Trissy (Ava Preston) and Jake (Jack Fulton), along with her own little brother Phillip (Jaeden Noel), Drea takes them on a hike, unaware that mysterious alien critters have crash-landed and started devouring every living thing they encounter. “While being tracked by the ravenous critters, Drea and the kids encounter an adorable, seemingly harmless female critter named Bianca, an exiled royal fleeing the critter race. As the critters converge on the college campus, Drea and the kids, who are now inextricably linked to Bianca, rush to head them off. Will Drea discover her inner badass, and will it be enough to stop the critter onslaught? And is the critter princess as innocent as she seems?” unquote

Well that sounds like…something.

Paramount is moving forward with its live adaptation of Rugrats by hiring Diary of a wimpy kid director David Bowers. The adaptation of the 90’s cartoon is set to be a live action and CGI hybrid. With the babies done in CGI and the adults being live action. No other details are available. CGI babies, sounds really creepy.

And while we’re on cartoons being made into movies, Warner Bros is bringing Tom and Jerry to the movies and they are in talks with Chloe Grace Moretz to star in the film. Just like Rugrats this would be a live action animated hybrid movie. Chloe would be playing the part of Kayla an employee at the hotel that Jerry movies into during a glamorous wedding. Kayla hires Tom  to take out Jerry and hilarity ensues?

The twenty fifth James Bond movie is….taking its sweet time. However, we have a little news about the casting. No title yet, but we did get word via a promotional video that Rami Malek will play the villain of the picture. Also we got some plot details, According to producer Barbara Broccoli quote “He’s enjoying himself in Jamaica,”unquote Barbara also added that the production has built an “extraordinary” house for the famous agent and his license to kill. The description of the movie is that quote  “[Bond’s] peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.” Unquote.

Now let’s get on with the show.

An DC Comics

DC recently teased a series for Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen  by writer Matt Fraction and artist Steve Lieber also coming is a series for Lois Lane from writer Greg Rucka and art form Mke Perkins. These come on the heels of the announcement of DCeased. The latest event series to hit the DC Universe. From writer Tom Taylor with art by Trevor Hairsine, James Harren and Stefano Gaudiano. Here’s the official synopsis: quote  “A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction. The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first…but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends? Unquote Soooo. Zombies. No word on if this takes place in the main DC Universe or an alternate one.The first issue is set to be released on May 1st.

Aquaman has now knocked off Transformers Dark of the Moon to become the 20th highest grossing movie of all time. The movie has ascended to 1.13 billion dollars in worldwide box office. Aquaman is already the highest grossing DC Comics movie of all time having taken the prize from The Dark Knight Rises. A sequel is already in development With James Wan rumored to return,

You gotta love cookies. A girl scout has made Top Cookie CEO for her impressive cookie sales, how did she do it? She rebranded Samoas into Mamoas, after Jason Mamoa, she even redid the boxes with Jason Mamoa photo from Aquaman. Apparently they they were a hit with both boys and girls because according to charlotte quote “Girls will want to buy some because he’s on the front and boys will want to because he’s their favorite character,”. Unquote Now it wasn’t just charlotte’s idea as her mother is a marketing professional. Still, it’s very cool.

Well it’s official Ben Affleck has given up the cape and cowl and retired as Batman. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new Netflix movie Triple Frontier, Affleck spoke about his decision to leave the Dark Knight behind as director Matt Reeves puts together The Batman. Quote “Yeah, I am. I have decided — I tried to direct a version of it, worked with a really good screenwriter, but couldn’t come up with a version,” Affleck told Kimmel. “Couldn’t crack it. So I thought it was time to let someone else take a shot at it, and they got some really good people.” Kimmel than hung Afflecks cape and cowl from the rafters.

So, who will next dawn the cape and cowl? No one knows yet, but Armie Hammer’s name has been bandied about, he denies it. Robert Pattinson has also been brought up as a possible contender, he wouldn’t be my choice, I don’t know that he has the chops to play the Dark Knight Detective. But I could be wrong.

Mattel’s loss is Todd McFarlane’s gain, Todd’s company, McFarlane Toys is taking over the DC Comics toy license. Todd has announced that the line will include interpretations of characters from movies, tv, video games and comics. Todd said in an interview quote “Let’s look at some of the categories we’re going to do,” McFarlane said. “We’re going to do movies. We’re going to do TV. We’re gonna do comic book versions. We’re gonna do animated versions. We’ll do the core toy line and then maybe even some video game stuff. So that gives us a wide range so that in any character you can think of, whether it’s Flash, I can do a version of each one of those. I can do TV, I can do movie, I can do comic book, I can do regular toy line Flash, animated Flash, video game Flash, so if you like Flash we’ll be able to do a big wide range of it.” unquote and it also looks like the figures will be super poseable with anywhere between quote 18 and 24 moving parts” Unquote  Mr. McFarlane hopes to launch the new line in January of 2020.

And on the subject of toys, Walmart stores have been trying to build up their collectibles aisle as of late and it has been announced that DC Collectibles will be bringing it’s Batman: Black and White statue line to Walmart stores as 4 inch mini figures. These figures will be shrunk down versions of the 9 inch figures and feature designs from artists like Jim Lee, Bruce Timm, Amanda Conner and many more.  These figures will be presented in the “blind bag” packaging next to DC Comic Giants and will have new figures every few months in waves of six. Wave one comes out this month and has all Batman figures from artists Amanda Conner, Darwyn Cooke, Jason Fabok, Patrick Gleason, Frank Quitely and Dick Sprang. The next release after that will be in April. They will retail for five dollars each and will be available in over 3,000 Walmart locations.

The upcoming Birds of Prey movie has gotten a new cast member, Charlene Amoia. Amoia, who was Wendy on  How I met Your Mother will play the role of Helena Bertinelli’s mother Maria Bertinelli Helena aka The Huntress is being played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) comes out February 7th 2020.

And in other DC casting news, Batwoman has found her father, actor Dougray Scott has been cast as Colonel Jacob Kane, the father of Kate Kane aka Batwoman. Dad is a retired colonel with a grudge against Batman. He now commands Gotham’s private security firm The Crows and has made it his mission to prove that Gotham doesn’t need a Batman. Hmmm. think he’ll be happy if he finds out that his daughter is a vigilante herself? The comic origins of the character are quite a bit different, as he is seen as an ally of Batwoman and has served as her Oracle type character.  Dougray is best known for his work in Mission Impossible II, Fear the Walking Dead and My Week with Marilyn. However he was almost Wolverine in X-Men, however he had to pass it up because the schedule conflicted with Mission Impossible II. Batwoman has yet to receive a pickup, but CW president Mark Pedowitz has expressed confidence that it will ultimately get picked up.

Marvel

Well, we knew it was only a matter of time. Netflix has announced that Jessica Jones and The Punisher have been canceled. The third season of Jessica Jones has yet to air. Netflix issued a statement saying quote “We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning.” However there may be life after netflix, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb in a letter to Marvel fans said quote “Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that,” Loeb wrote, throwing some shade at Netflix for its decisions. “As Matthew Murdock’s Dad once said, ‘The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it’s how he gets back up.’

“To be continued…!”

So perhaps one day these characters will see the screen again.

And on the subject of exits, Gwyneth Paltrow has officially exited the MCU. The actress who has portrayed Pepper Potts since the birth of the MCU told Variety in an interview quote  “I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [‘Iron Man’ director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first ‘Iron Man’ and then to watch how important it has become to fans.” Although she might come back for an occasional cameo if needed. Well now she has more time to spend promoting crackpot health theories.

Captain Marvel is on the horizon and a look at the new book Captain Marvel StarForce Mission Log has a character we haven’t seen since the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, Rohmann Dey. The Nova Corps member who was portrayed by John C Reilly. Does this mean we might see the character in the movie? We can only wait and see.

So, after watching Spider-man INto the Spider-verse have you asked yourself what hot dogs are made of in Spider-Ham’s universe? Wonder no more as producer Chris Miller answered the question on twitter quote In Spider-Ham’s universe, hot dogs are made of human meat. Feel better? Unquote

Hopefully from free range humans.

Star Wars

We start Star Wars news with news with a rumor about a possible new Star Wars series for Disney Plus. Star Wars News Net has heard from a little Porg that the studio is developing an Obi-Wan series. No if you’ll remember that an Obi-Wan movie was on the docket before Solo: A Star Wars story nixed those plans. So, I’m gonna guess that if The Mandalorian does well, this very well could happen.

HN Entertainment claims to have obtained a list of possible series that cold be put into production for Disney Plus. These include a Princess Leia prequel, Captain Phasma, The Knights of ren, Rose Tico and Darth Bane. Now keep in mind this is just a list of possible subjects ,nothing is in any stage of production. If any of these come anywhere near production, we will let you know.

So moving on from what might be to what will be, the trailer for the still subtitle less episode nine is on the horizon, and word is that it will be released in April as well as before Avengers Endgame. This report come from Star Wars News Net which says it has a very credible source. The debut could possibly be at Star Wars Celebration Chicago, which happens mid April.

Porgs, they aren’t just for dinner anymore. Syfy.com reports that ILMxLab has created a virtual reality experience called Star Wars: Project Porg, this mixed reality experience let’s the user take care of a virtual porg kinda like the old Tamagotchi (kid’s ask your parents what those are) The porgs can be played with fed and even mated with other porgs to make a new one. You can even take them on the road by taking your headset and controls with you. ILMxLab has released a video showcasing the game. It’s actually quite cute. We’ll have a link to it in the show notes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=197&v=cZNYwEyC-Gc

Grab your lightsaber and put it in your carry on bag, Time to got to france. The Associated Press reports that France has made Lightsaber dueling an official recognized competitive sport.  The sabers certified for this use LED rings to light up and are made of a touch polycarbonate plastic. Some of the higher quality sabers will even rumble when turned on and are made to be aerodynamic as possible. According to reports, lightsaber dueling was approved because of its intense physicality. The French Fencing Federation is equipping fencing clubs all over the country with sabers and instructors who are one with the Force and they are hoping that this will make fencing hip and will help attract people of all ages and help combat sedentary habits.

So if you’re asking yourself, what are the rules for the duel, here you go. The duel begins with both contestants entering a marked circle and saluting. A strike to the head or body accrues 5 points while limbs are worth 3 and hands 1. The first combatant to 15 points wins or to the person who has the most points after three minutes. Should both fighters reach 10 points before time runs out, the duel enters a ‘sudden death’ mode where the first person to strike their opponent’s head or body wins. Strikes only count if the saber’s point is pointed behind them before landing, making swings more theatrical and wide like actual lightsaber duels. So, if the step-and-launch method of fencing never fancied you, then this new combat system might do the trick. So…anyone want to duel?

Star Trek News

We start Star Trek news with the fifty thousand credit question. Now that Patrick Stewart is reprising the role of Jean Luc Picard, would Shatner consider returning to the role of Jame T Kirk? Speaking with comic book dot com before a show at the Grand Ole Opry. They asked him. His response? Quote “That word, ‘resurrect.’ That’s a keyword,” Shatner says. “Resurrect. You’d have to resurrect me, Shatner, in order to do the daily [laughes] I don’t what Patrick is doing doing that. Doing a series is debilitating for a young guy, for a 25-year-old, which I was doing when I was 25 years old. It’s a physical wrecker, it’s a mental wrecker, and it’s a homewrecker ‘cause you’re working 14, 18 hours a day. And in the last series I did, Boston Legal, I had, in rush hour, a two-hour commute. So add that.” Unquote In order words, no. Besides he probably makes more selling autographs for 80 bucks a piece at cons, please he doesn’t have to get off his seat. Trust me, I have a picture with him, he doesn’t get off his seat.

However, if you want someone who would return to Star Trek and has an EGOT (That’s an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony award. Whoopi Goldberg is ready to answer the call. On David Tennant’s podcast, Tennant brought up the notion of returning for the Picard series, and although she hasn’t been asked, but she would be open to it. So….balls in your court Sir Patrick, former cast members are standing by.

In a fourth quarter earnings call to investors, CBS interim CEO Joe Iannello revealed that CBS All Access roughly 4 million subscribers , they had originally hoped to reach that goal by 2020. CBS has now set a new target of 25 million subscribers for it’s All Access and Showtime subscription services by 2022. He did note the contribution of Discovery and the anticipation for the Picard series.   However I would like to note that no talk of the still possible merger between CBS and Viacom was discussed. So don’t expect anything on that front in the near future. However if we hear something, we will let you know.

Variety reports that CBS and Nickelodeon are in negotiations for a new Star Trek animated series for kids. The show would be from the writers of Hotel Transylvania and Ninjago:Masters of Spinjitzu, Kevin and Dan Hageman. If it comes to be, it would be the first Trek show to air outside of CBS All Access. This show is seperate from Star trek Lower Decks which is the adult oriented animated series that was previously announced.

Levar Burton is set to be honored by the city of Sacramento California. According to The Sacramento Bee, the city’s parks commission has recommended that Richfield Park in Meadowview be renamed Levar Burton Park. Sacramento was Levar’s childhood home after his family moved there when he was three years old. Brianna Moland, assistant planner for the city said quote “He’s always been proud of his Sacramento roots and he continues to use his career and his influence to be a strong advocate for literacy for children,” Levar tweeted in response to the news quote “Wow, is all I can say as well!”

By the way, have you been watching The Orville? These last three episodes of the season are game changers. Wow. Anyway You can now play with The Orville as Wizkids announced that it has gotten the license to produce HeroClix figures. The first set which will be released this fall is a Jumbo Starter set featuring the main crew from the show. This is only the second tv license to join the Heroclix line, Star Trek being the first. I so want these.

The classic nickelodeon show Are You Afraid of the Dark? Is set to be revived as a miniseries alongside a new film adaptation. The miniseries will feature new members of the Midnight Society gathering around the campfire to tell scary stories, Nickelodeon has not announced when the show would debut but it’ll probably be around the same time as the movie which is set for release in October of this year.

And while we’re on the subject of revivals, Neil Gaiman has teamed up with The Jim Henson Company and Fremantle Media for a new version of The Storyteller. The series from 1987 showcased retelling of legends and myths and featured John Hurt and later Michael Gambon as the Storyteller. Speaking to Deadline, Mr. Gaiman said quote “Part of what fascinates me about The Storyteller is the stuff that we don’t know,”  “Who was the Storyteller, why was he telling these stories, was he a goblin, what kind of creature? What I’d love to do is an inside story that’s as long as the outside story.” Neil is no slouch when it comes to folklore and fairy tales having written about folklore in mythology in The Sandman and American Gods and having released Norse Mythology, a book retelling several classic Norse myths in 2017. No distribution or release date has been announced.

The Lost Boys series on the CW will have some fairly major differences from its source material, that’s to be expected. The latest one is very interesting. If you’ll remember the movie, The Frog Brothers, played in the movie by Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander were the keepers of lore about vampires and the possibility of their existence in Santa Clara, California. Now word has come down by the Witching Hour podcast that The Frog Brothers have been gender swapped into the Frog Sisters The duo will be named Cassie and Liza, but no other word on any other changes to the characters has come forth. Here are the concrete facts we do know, The Lost Boys reboot will be led by Grey’s Anatomy writer Heather Mitchell. Here’s the synopsis quote “Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat… and a secret underworld of vampires,” “After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.” unquote

No word on if the show will get to go to the production stage yet.

While we are on the subject of the dead. We are sad by the report from The Hollywood Reporter that the George R.R. Martin inspired series Nightflyers will not be getting a renewal by Syfy The series based on Martin’s novella quote “followed eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of the solar system aboard The Nightflyer — a ship with a small tight-knit crew and a reclusive captain — in hopes of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place, they start to question each other, and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.” unquote. I’m sure Mr. Martin is crying into the large pile of money he already has and my sympathies to the crew and fans.

We also have word from the Hollywood reporter that Amazon will end the Man in the High Castle with Season 4. Production will wrap up next month and the final season will premiere in the fall.

An exclusive to Variety has reveled that  a Gremlins aminated sereis is in development for Warner Media’s upcoming streaming service. The potential series is said to be a period piece that would follow Mr. Wing, the Chinese grandfather played in the films by Keye Luke, as a young man as he goes on adventures with the friendly Mogwai Gizmo. The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television. Both Warner Bros. and Amblin produced the films on which the show will be based. Tzw Chun has been attached to write and executive produce it, his credits include the tv shows Gotham and Once Upon A Time and he is the co founder of comic book publisher TKO Studios.

We also have some news about the The Wheel of Time adaptation that Amazon Studios is producing. According to Deadline, Uta Briesewitz, who has worked on The Defenders, Jessica Jones and the third season of Stranger Things, will direct the first two episodes of the show about an grand struggle between good and evil. Rafe Judkins will serve as showrunner and executive producer. No launch date has been revealed yet.

We talked a couple of episodes about the award season. The grand finale is here. The razzies and the Oscars.

And finally the big one The 91st Academy Awards were held on Sunday and Black Panther did pretty well. Picking up Oscars for Production Design and Costume Design and Original Score and the oscar for best animated picture went to Spiderman Into the Spider-verse.  Plus Stan Lee was honored in the In Memoriam tribute.

Mario and Zelda will have new games coming out this year as Nintendo has announced a new game for each. First up is Super Mario Maker 2, which will allow you to make your own Mario levels including new objects from Super Mario 3D World.  Zelda will get an old favorite remade as the Gameboy classic The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is being brought to the switch. I loved this game when it first came out and the animation for the update looks good.

Thank you!

I record episode two in a day or two and I just checked my stats for episode one.

Now let me get one thing straight, I’m not in this for the stats. I’m doing this as a hobby…hell, you can call it therapy.

That said, Episode one, as of today, has 12 downloads for the audio version and 12 views for the YouTube version. Even if two of those are just me (I do listen to myself). Twenty is a nice number.

So, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you very much and get ready for episode two , which should be out by Thursday at the latest.

Day 3

I can’t believe it’s only been three days since I put out my first episode. Seems like it’s been longer. I’m already starting on work for the next episode and I already now that I need to boost the volume a bit. When I listened to the episode in PocketCasts it was a little low.

By the way, could you do me a favor and contribute to my ko-fi fund? The link is over in the sidebar =>

It would be a nice guesture and would help with the cost of producing this program. Plus if you donate this month, I’ll enter you into win something special from my supply of geeky stuff.

I’ll see you at episode 2.

Days away…

I’m just a few days away from recording the first episode.

To me, this is a lot like rehearsing for a play. I’m checking equipment, reading the script and fortifying myself mentally.

The good news is that I’m not doing this show live, that just didn’t make any sense to do and I doubt anyone would want to watch. This is also good because I can stop the recording to take a drink or use the bathroom.

Now I just wait to record.
