Tonight! Pike rides again! The Mandalorian gets some new actors and we remember two funny men. All that and more on this scifi edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Welcome to episode 76 of Multiverse Tonight.

Things are going okay here in Kansas. Restrictions are starting to lift a little bit, but frankly not enough people are wearing masks. People, until we have a vaccine or a cure for this, we need to ensure that we don’t spread anything around. Anyway, I’d like to give a shout out to the guys over at Pop Goes The Culture. They are allowing me to boost the signal so to speak and get out in front of more people. So, thanks guys. Now let’s get to the news.

Star Trek

The adventures of Anson Mount’s Captain Pike won’t end with season two of Discovery. CBS All Access has announced that it has ordered Star Trek Strange new worlds straight to series. The new show will follow Pike and the crew of the Enterprise in the decade before Kirk takes the reigns. Returning will be Anson Mount of course as Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Una aka Number One and Ethan Peck as Mr. Spock.  Akiva Goldsman will be writing the series premiere based on a story he co wrote with Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will serve as the main executive producers with Henry Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth also as executive producers and . Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper, and Davy Perez as co-executive producers. Akiva Goldsman in a statement said quote “This is a dream come true, literally,” said  Goldsman. “I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s. I’m honored to be a part of this continuing journey along with Alex, Henry and the fine folks at CBS. unquote This makes the fifth new Star trek series, joining Discovery, Picard, Short Treks and Lower Decks. There are a couple more still in development including a Nickelodeon series and a Section 31 series.

CBS All Access will be getting a makeover with a new name. In a first quarter earnings call with investors, ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish said that the rebranding will happen quote “as soon as [CBS All Access] expands to incorporate more of the company’s cable brands and library programming.” The streaming service already incorporates content from CBS and Paramount, but soon the service will bring in content from ViacomCBS’ cable brands like Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET, Smithsonian, MTV and Paramount Network. No definitive details on when a name change might be affected. Or when more Trek content is coming? Where is that Lower Decks series!

There has been now specific word on when the show will arrive and in an interview with Inverse dot com Show runner Mike McMahan said that quote “I can’t give you a specific answer on when that’s coming out,” “but we’re still working on it and we’re on track for when we have planned, which is this year.” unquote. Well I guess that’s something. While we wait, Check out his other new show, Solar Opposites on Hulu.

A Star Trek Voyager novel is coming out this October.  In “To Lose The Earth ”, quote “As the crew of the Full Circle fleet works to determine the fate of their lost ship, the Galen, a struggle for survival begins at the far edge of the galaxy. New revelations about Species 001, the race that built the biodomes that first drew the fleet to investigate planet DK-1116, force Admiral Kathryn Janeway to risk everything to learn the truth.” unquote The book is written by Kirsten Beyer.

Patrick Stewarty is echoing the hope for more Next Generation cast appearances in future episodes of Picard telling Gold Derby quote “In meetings when we talked about bringing in members of The Next Generation crew, that was one of the things I was most passionate about, which was not only should Picard have changed during the 18 years that had passed, but the same has to be applied to Counselor Troi, to Commander Riker, to whoever it is,” he says. “And by the way, I am very hopeful we will see more of The Next Generation crew before we say goodbye to Picard. And that is just what they did, and there is no better example than the episode.”

Star Trek Online has announced the Year of the Klingon with a new major multipart 2411 story focused on the Klingons. Existing Klingon content will also be getting a much needed overhaul. In a post on the STO website quote “[A]s part of this long-planned, face-of-the-game changing story, we’re taking a little time to focus on our most honorable allies. We love our Klingon content – who doesn’t love a story that involves descending into Grethor and fighting a god? – but a lot of it is old, and doesn’t contain the technical improvements we’ve made to the game over the years. So we’re spending time and resources to give these pieces of content visual and gameplay facelifts. Over the next twelve months (maybe more), you’ll see new Klingon character models for some of our classic characters like J’Mpok, updated skins for the classic Klingon ships like the Bird of Prey, new environments and cutscenes to refresh this old but beloved content.” unquote

Star  Wars

Happy Anniversary to the Empire Strike Back! The arguably best part of the original trilogy turns 40 this week. It opened in theaters on May 21, 1980. Made on a budget of 18 million dollars, it went on to gross 547.9 million by the end of it’s run. It was rereleased with a Special Edition back in 1997.

The Mandalorian will have a visit from the original man in the Mandalorian armor, Boba Fett. The bounty hunter will be making an appearance in the second season of the hit Disney Plus series. Boba will be played by Temuera Morrison who portrayed Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones.

Also reportedly cast for season two is Katee Sackoff. According to Slash Film dot com, Katee will be appearing as Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan Kryze, who Katee has voiced in both the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. According to the site, Sackhoff and Lucasfilm are keeping the news under wraps. Also cast is actor Timothy Olyphant. His character is unknown at this time.

Dave Filoni will be returning to the directors chair for the Mandalorians second season, Filoni, who also serves as executive producer directed the first and fifth episodes of the first season will be directing just one this season. Speaking with Deadline he said quote “I just did one episode this coming season,” “I’m really excited about it, I wrote it and directed it, so you know, that’ll be a fun thing for me, and I’ve been learning from Jon [Favreau]. He’s a great mentor. You know, to be in that situation in a live-action show with someone like him and a fantastic team of people, it’s a really fortunate place for me to land because you’re with people that can really help you and realize the things that you’re trying to do story-wise.” unquote

CBS has picked up the Silence of The Lambs sequel series Clarice, Clarice will follow Agent Starling, six months after the events of the movie have taken place. Here’s what the official press release says quote “CLARICE, from acclaimed executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, and starring Rebecca Breeds (“Pretty Little Liars”) in the title role, is a deep dive into the untold personal story of brilliant and vulnerable FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field in 1993, six months after the events of “The Silence of the Lambs.” Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Michael Cudlitz, Lucca De Oliveira and Devyn A. Tyler also star. Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet and Heather Kadin are executive producers for MGM Television and CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout. Aaron Baiers is a co-executive producer.” unquote Not the first time the Hannibal story events have been touched upon, NBC did Hannibal, which took place in and around the events of the first novel in the Hannibal series Red Dragon.

Stephen King’s 2014 novel Revival will be getting a big screen adaptation from Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, the guys behind last year’s Doctor Sleep adaptation. Flanagan is writing the script and might possibly direct. The novel centers around the relationship between a heroin addicted musician and a dubious minister with an unknown agenda.

Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing back National treasure, this time for tv. If it’s given a go it would go to Disney Plus. Mr. Bruckheimer told Collider quote “We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active. … The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast,” unquote He went on to tell Collier that the pilot script and season outline have been presented to Disney Plus. So it sounds like no Nick Cage. Either this is a prequel or a total reimagining.

A Disney Plus series based on the Percy Jackson series of books is currently in the early stages of development according to author Rick Riordan. IN a  statement he said quote

Unquote Hopefully this will have a better reception than the movie got.

Disney Plus is moving around the release dates for some movies. Avengers Infinity War is coming to the service on June 26th, Solo A Star Wars Story is comin on July 10th and Ant-Man and the Wasp will debut on Disney Plus on August 14th.

Now to something everyone wants to see, Disney Plus announced that a filmed production of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton will hit the streamer on July 3rd, over a year before it was slated to be released to theaters. In a statement Mister Miranda said quote “I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought ‘Hamilton’ to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house,” Miranda said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney Plus for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4 weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I’m so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it.” Disney paid 75 million for the rights to the filmed rendition and there are still plans for a fully produced big screen version, but that’s not in the immediate future.

DC

Are you ready for Batman to get…darker? According to one of the stars of The Batman Andy Serkis, get ready for darker. Speaking with LADbible, Serkis said that the movie will be more intense than previous DCU movies and that his Alfred Pennyworth and Bruce Wayne will have a real emotional connection at the center of the script. He also said that his Alfred will be a very different take from previous versions. Saying quote “He [Caine] was fantastic. His Alfred was legendary, I couldn’t even begin to go there, really. You find it for yourself. It’s like playing these iconic roles in Shakespeare, you go back, you revisit them and you have to make it your own, and see what it is about the character that connects with you and your personal venn diagram,” unquote Andy also revealed that they were only halfway finished when production halted due to the pandemic and a restart has not been set yet.  You know, I don’t want a darker Batman, I want a detective Batman. Can we see that instead? Please?

Swamp Thing has always been able to rise from the swamps..now he’s arisen from cancelation as the CW has picked up the series from DCUniverse. No details have been given as to new production on new episodes.

That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.”

Once free, he must retrieve the three “tools” that will restore his power and help him to rebuild his dominion, which has deteriorated in his absence. As the multi-threaded story unspools, The Sandman descends into Hell to confront Lucifer (Michael Sheen), chases rogue nightmares who have escaped his realm, and crosses paths with an array of characters from DC comic books, ancient myths, and real-world history, including: Inmates of Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum, Doctor Destiny, the muse Calliope, the three Fates, William Shakespeare (Arthur Darvill), and many more.“

NEW SERIES

SUPERMAN & LOISIn SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”). The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) enters their lives. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, SUPERMAN & LOIS is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (“The Flash”) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

WALKER — a reimagining of the long-running series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” stars Jared Padalecki (“Supernatural”) as Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, who returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home. He’ll attempt to reconnect with his creative and thoughtful son (Kale Culley, “Me, Myself and I”) and his headstrong, somewhat rebellious teenage daughter (Violet Brinson, “Sharp Objects”) and navigate clashes with his family – an ADA brother (Keegan Allen, “Pretty Little Liars”) who stepped in during Walker’s absence, his perceptive mother (Molly Hagen, “Herman’s Head”) and his traditional rancher father (Mitch Pileggi, “The X-Files”). Walker’s former colleague is now his Ranger Captain, (Coby Bell, “The Game”). Walker finds unexpected common ground with his new partner (one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history) played by Lindsey Morgan (“The 100”), while growing increasingly suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. The show also stars Jeff Pierre as Trey Barnett. WALKER is written and executive produced by Anna Fricke (“Being Human,” “Valor”), and executive produced by Dan Lin and Lindsay Liberatore and Jared Padalecki. WALKER is from CBS Television Studios in association with Rideback.

MIDSEASON

KUNG FU — A quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman, Nicky Shen (Olivia Liang), to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to San Francisco, she finds her hometown is overrun with crime and corruption and her own parents (Tzi Ma and Kheng Hua Tan) are at the mercy of a powerful Triad. Nicky will rely on her tech-savvy sister (Shannon Dang), pre-med brother (Jon Prasida), Assistant District Attorney and ex-boyfriend (Gavin Stenhouse), and new love interest (Eddie Liu) as well as her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice … all while searching for the ruthless assassin (Gwendoline Yeo) who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her. Inspired by the original series created by Ed Spielman, KUNG FU is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Quinn’s House and Berlanti Productions, with writer/executive producer Christina M. Kim (“Blindspot,” “Lost”) and executive producers Martin Gero (“Blindspot,” “LA Complex”), Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Riverdale”) and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Riverdale”).

THE REPUBLIC OF SARAH — The bucolic tranquility of Greylock, New Hampshire is upended when a massive vein of coltan – an incredibly valuable mineral used in tech – is discovered under the town. State-backed mining company Lydon Industries swoops in with plans to extract the mineral … plans that include wiping Greylock off the map. With her friends and family in danger of losing their homes, rebellious high school teacher Sarah Cooper (Stella Baker) vows to stop Lydon’s bulldozers. It won’t be easy. Leading Lydon’s efforts is Sarah’s estranged brother, Danny Cooper (Luke Mitchell). After enduring a difficult childhood at the hands of his mother, former state senator Ellen Cooper (Megan Follows), Danny is eager to exact his revenge on a community he feels abandoned him. Sarah enlists her friends – fellow teacher Corinne Dearborn (Hope Lauren), police officer Amy “AJ” Johnson (Nia Holloway), and diner manager Grover Simms (Ian Duff) – in the fight against Danny, but there seems to be no way to stop the town’s impending demise … Until Sarah proposes an oddly intriguing solution: Greylock could declare independence. Citing various historical maps, she explains that the land on which Greylock sits was never properly claimed by the United States. If Sarah and her friends can convince the town to vote for independence, Greylock would gain international sovereignty and could protect its land for good. With the help of a group of supporters that includes three of her teenage students – LA transplant Maya Jimenez (Izabella Alvarez), introspective outsider Tyler Easterbrook (Forrest Goodluck), and preppy “popular girl” Bella Whitmore (Landry Bender) – Sarah and her friends win the vote. And after a federal judge agrees that Greylock isn’t – and never was – part of the United States, the town becomes a new nation. Now, Sarah and her allies must confront an even more daunting task: building a country from scratch. Executive Produced by Jeffrey Paul King (“Elementary”), Marc Webb (“Why Women Kill), Mark Martin (“Rendition”), Jeff Grosvenor and Leo Pearlman, THE REPUBLIC OF SARAH is a production of CBS Television Studios in association with Fulwell 73 and Black Lamb.

Marvel

Rob Liefeld Creator of Deadpool and lots of other things, is someone who likes to freely share his opinions. Speaking with Comicbooks doe coms Talking Shop. It’s been two years since Deadpool 3, so what’s the hold up on the third one? Rob puts the blame on Marvel, quote “I blame Marvel…blame Marvel that that hasn’t happened yet,” Liefeld says. “They are the reason it isn’t happening. Whatever conundrum or it didn’t fit into your master plan, just commission it. Okay, commission it. You know if Frank Frazetta was still around, you would say, ‘Frank paint for me.'”

“If Ryan(Reyonlads) is making Deadpool 3 right now, that’s because Marvel hasn’t allowed it to be yet and that’s all I’m saying,” he adds. “So, do I have a lot of faith in that system? Dude, I have no idea. So this is where I’m not that, I’m not giving you the answers you want. I’m like yeah, yeah. Look if it happens, terrific.”

Liefeld also thinks that Hugh Jackman will return to the cim=nematic X-Men franchise. When asked if he could see another actor in the role he said in an interview with Inverse quote “I’m stuck on Hugh Jackman,” “Having met Hugh, having loved Hugh, there is only Deadpool because of Wolverine… I was doing Deadpool [in the comics] to get to Wolverine. Wolverine was always the goal.” unquote, what would your choice as a new Wolverine be?

Fox’s final X-Men production, The New Mutants has been given a theatrical release date of August 28th in the year 2020 …or will it? This movie has been in the can for more than 2 years now. First slated for release in april of 2018, then getting pushed to February of last year, then to August of 2019. Then Fox was sold to Disney and it was moved to April 3rd of 2020…and then the pandemic. Yep, it’s been a long strange trip…maybe Disney should just put it out on Disney Plus and digital? Do they really think this will be a great money maker?

Marvel Entertainment is shuttering it’s digital comics shop. The publisher in an email to subscribers announced that digital comics purchased on the site will will automatically be available under your account in the Marvel Comics app. The company is also integrating a function where you can sync up the Marvel mobile app with your comiXology account so that your purchases are available both mobile and on a computer, without having to double-dip. This is an interesting move considering that Marvel and DC have been pushing digital  hard during the pandemic.

We all know of Galactus, but until now, no one has met his Antithesis.” Adams added quote “I have always had the sense of missing the chance to draw the Fantastic Four,” Adams added. “It was a quiet sense, since I’ve had every opportunity to do my favorites. More, I felt Kirby and Buscema had done it all, hadn’t they…? When Marvel’s Tom Brevoort asked if I’d like to do the Fantastic Four, I knew I had to ask for Galactus and the Silver Surfer as well. I am humbled and thankful to Tom for the opportunity.” Here’s the official synopsis quote The soaring sentinel of the space-ways may have finally met his match in the all-new series FANTASTIC FOUR: ANTITHESIS – the first full-length Fantastic Four story ever illustrated by industry legend Neal Adams! In a facebook post former DC president Paul Levitz wrote, “[T]he odds are you’ve read his work, credited or not, or enjoyed a comic or cartoon or tv show or even a theme park event he made better, even as he relentlessly complained about the difficulties of making it as good as it ‘should’ be. Marty didn’t have a genius for making anything easy (especially for him), but he had a real genius for making creative magic.” Martin Pasko was 65.

Show Notes Episode 74: What Would the Great Bird of The Galaxy Say? & Episode 75: Marvel Comics are Coming Back!

Welcome to Episode 74 of Multiverse Tonight. May the Fourth be with you. So I don’t know about any of you listening outside the united states, but here things are starting to open up a bit.  Spring Fever has set in, and not caused by Co-Vid. People are getting out and Fishing and Camping. Some businesses are starting to open back up with qualifications. Social Distancing, masks, cleaning routines and so forth. I wish they’d open up the hair salons, I need a haircut.  Let’s get on with the news.

STar Trek

Alex Kurtzman is someone who can be seen as a devil or a saint depending on who you ask. He’s partially responsible for the first two JJ Trek movies and then a co-creator of Discovery, now he’s the head of the Star Trek franchise. So, we might as well get to know him, the man sat down with the Star Trek Picard Official Collector’s Edition Magazine from Titan and opened up about how Trek has taken over his life and his hopes that The Great Bird Gene Roddenberry would be proud of what he’s done. About how involved with the shows he is, he’s in deep saying quote I very much enjoy it. My involvement, it’s not just in the writing of it. I post all the shows, so that means I cut them, and I’m involved all the way down to the color timing and mixing. That’s a lot of work. But… I’ll show you how I enjoy it. My wife and son actually deliberately like to stay out of any knowledge of what I’m doing until it airs. So, when it airs, we all sit down and watch together, and I see it fresh through their eyes, which is really fun, because it’s the culmination of all the work, and now we get to sit together as a family and enjoy it. And, in a funny way, isn’t that what Star Trek has always been about? People sitting together as a family and loving it?

I’m now at the point where I’m eating, breathing, dreaming Star Trek. And I love it! I love it for one reason. The work itself is very challenging, but it’s also some of the most satisfying work I’ve ever done, and I think that the reason why is because I’m recognizing and seeing in so many people that I meet how critically important it is to their lives. I see that Star Trek has influenced people’s lives in a real way. It’s not just a form of entertainment. It’s an inspiration for the kind of people they want to be, or the kinds of things they choose to pursue in their careers or the principles they want to live by. That’s put such a tremendous responsibility on our shoulders to deliver and to maintain that message.

And what would he do if he could somehow meet Gene Roddenberry, who died back in 1991? Quote It’s funny. I think about that, actually, probably more frequently than I should [laughs]. I hope that he recognizes that, well… First of all, he’d probably take issue with me for the amount of conflict the characters have. I know that was a big thing he struggled with on Next Gen. But my hope would be that he would recognize now, from his grand perspective in the sky, how much that opened the door for Star Trek’s endurance, and how much it’s iterated and changed and yet has remained, I believe, very true to his vision. There isn’t really a day that goes by where we don’t think very consciously about how he would want the messaging of Star Trek to go, and is what we’re doing consistent with the messaging of Star Trek, as he envisioned it? It’s really important to all of us. I hope he would appreciate it. I hope he would be proud. You can pick up the magazine on Amazon now.

Season Three of Discovery will see a tonal shift for the series, according to Jonathan Frakes speaking with comic book dot com quote “Discovery has primarily to do with Sonequa’s character, as you’ll see. At the end of season two, we flash-forwarded I think 930 years. Michael Burnham has found a new core, not to mention a new partner in crime. So again, there’s a big tonal shift on that show, less driven by the pain and guilt of her past and more about the magical reunification of the Discovery crew and wherever she went off to,” “God knows where she went as the Red Angel. So those two things coming back together is very much the theme, and how grateful everyone is and what’s next. It’s got a lot of action-adventure and not so much pain.” unquote That partner in crime he was referring to is a new character played by David Ajala named Book.

By the way, about Riker’s appearance at the end of Picard? Frakes’ appearance was filmed on a redressed Discovery bridge in Toronto while he was busy directing one of his third season episodes. No idea of when Discovery Season Three will show up, but by now most of those people who have canceled their subscriptions would like to know. Kinda helps with budgeting.

Lawsuits never die. A while back a district court ended the copyright lawsuit against ComicMix’s Oh the Places You’ll Boldly Go!, a parody of Dr. Seuss’ Oh the Place You’ll Go! That federal district court judge back in March of last year, ruled that it was a parody and did make fair use of copyrighted material. Now, it’s gone to the next level and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is hearing the appeal. There are two big issues in the case. One What is fair use? Two, what effect does fair use have on the potential market.   There’s a great article on the Hollywood Reporter about this, I’ll have a link to it in the show notes and when a decision is handed down, I’ll let you know.

Star Wars

Surprise! The Rise of Skywalker was released to Disney Plus a couple of months early just in time for the annual May the Fourth geek holiday. The Rise of Skywalker made for more than a billion dollars world wide. An impressive feat for any film. However the film was the least profitable of the sequel trilogy, even lower than Rogue One but higher than Solo.

We also have some breaking news. Star Wars dot com has announced that Acadmy Award winner taika Waititi will be directing and co writing a new Star wars feature film  with Oscar Nominated Writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

In addition to that news, Emmy nominated writer Leslye Headland is currently developing a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series,

The Cassian Andor series is busy staffing up. This time, they’ve added actresses Genevieve O’Reilly and Denise Gough to the pre Rogue One based show. O Reilly will play the same role she played in the movie, Mon Mothma. Ms. Gough’s character is still unknown. There is still no start date for production but the series has had some shifts behind the scenes, The Hollywood Reporter learned that Tony Gilroy, a co writer of the Rogue ONe movie will now show run the show replacing Stephen Schiff. Gilroy will also direct the first couple of episodes.

Playstation 4 owners? You’ve been given a caution flag on the last lap. Last episode I told you about Star Wars Episode One racer coming to Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch on May twelfth, will now Playstation owners won’t get the game until May 26th. Aspyr posted on twitter about the delay quote “We have an update on the launch of Star Wars Episode l: Racer,” Aspyr shared on social media. “Unfortunately, we’ve just learned that we will have to delay the game on PlayStation 4 until May 26.” no reason for the delay was given, but it sounds like it’s on Playstation’s end.

The world might be in a state of shut down and restart right now, but work continues on The Mandalorian Season 2. Director Rick Famuyiwa told Variety that quote “We’ve been hunkered down in the post process, it’s been a challenging and great experience so far, but it’s good to have that to take my mind away from the daily madness that we’re living at the moment.” unquote Season 2 is due on Disney Plus in October.

And on that merchandising for The Mandalorians breakout star The Child is in full effect, now there’s a Star Wars the Mandalorian The Child edition of monopoly with the child full face on the box, the game pieces are all of the Child and you play by buying and selling Hideouts and Common Houses and use Camtono and Bounty Puck cards. The game retails for 19.99

The VR game Vader Immortal will be coming to Playstation VR this summer. All three episodes will be available for one individual purchase, giving fans the chance to experience Vader Immortal in its entirety.A canonical part of the Star Wars galaxy, Vader Immortal is a cinematic, narrative adventure connected to the events of Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire — also produced by ILMxLAB — and is set between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope.

Chris Pine needs something to do. Why not another franchise? Mr. Pine is in negotiations to star in a reboot of The Saint based on the 1920’s book series, which was turned into a 1960’s series starring Roger Moore and a 1997 film starring Val Kilmer. The story is about Simon Templar aka the Saint, a Robin Hood type character who travels the wor;d. The film will be directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Paramount sees this movie has a potential start to a Mission Impossible ty[e movie series. No idea when production would start.

Speaking of mission Impossible, Mission Impossible seven has been pushed back four months from July 23, 2021 to November 19,2021. The July 23rd date will no be given to the sci fi film The Tomorrow War starring Chris Pratt, which had originally been set to open this December

The moving of Mission Impossible has bumped Dungeons and Dragons to May 27,2022. Mission Impossible 8 has also been moved going from November fourth 2022 to August fifth 2022..

AMC Theaters, when they open up, if they open up. Won’T be showing anything from Universal. First. AMC has announced that unless it has no product to show, it’s not going to open any of it’s theaters, which seems to be the sentiment from other theater chain owners. AMC is also in dire straits due to its debt load which might cause the theater chain to declare bankruptcy if it can’t avoid it.

However when they do open, they won’t  be showing anything from Universal as AMC CEO Adam Aron announced in a published letter to Universal Chairman Donna Langley. The source of the tiff? Trolls World Tour. Yep, that silly Trolls movie was originally going to be sent to theaters, like all big movies, but was instead shunted to digital downloads when the pandemic caused theaters to close. And it was a big hit, making Universal one hundred million in rental fees since April tenth. So good that NBC Universal CEO Jeff Shull told the Wall Street Journal that it quote  “exceeded our expectations and demonstrated the viability” of on-demand video. Unquote And that when theaters opened they expect to release theaters in both formats, implying that they would be released in theaters and in digital simultaneously. In response to those remarks, AMC will quote will no longer play any Universal movies in any of our theaters in the United States, Europe or the Middle East unquote. AMC also added that this was no idle threat.  So if AMC is your only option for theater movies, I would start writing emails today. If you wanna see the next Fast and the Furious movie next year.

And joining AMC in the Universal boycott is Regal Entertainment, parent company Cineworld Group in a statement said quote “Cineworld’s policy with respect to the window is clear, well known in the industry and is part of our commercial deal with our movie suppliers. We invest heavily in our cinemas across the globe and this allows the movie studios to provide customers all around the world to watch the movies in the best experience. There is no argument that the big screen is the best way to watch a movie.””Universal unilaterally chose to break our understanding and did so at the height of the Covid-19 crisis when our business is closed, more than 35,000 employees are at home and when we do not yet have a clear date for the reopening of our cinemas. Universal’s move is completely inappropriate and certainly has nothing to do with good faith business practice, partnership and transparency.”

Unquote   Kinda sounds like the theater companies are getting scared.

From movie showing to movie making. Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy are reteaming for a new untitled time travel adventure for Skydance according to the Hollywood Reporter. The movie, which originally was called Our Name is Adam will see Reyonolds character traveling back in time to help his thirteen year old self. Together they encounter their late father, who is the same age as Reynolds. The story is written by Jonathan Tropper and the movie has been in and out of development at Skydance and Paramount since 2012 when it had Tom Cruise in the lead role.

Time travel seems to be popular. James Wann and Don Murphy are teaming up to adapt Hunting Season , a sci-fi time travel story by Frank m. Robinson. The script will be written by Derek Kolstad who wrote the John Wick franchise. Hunting Season follows the story of a law officer from the future who is declared an enemy of the state and sentenced to be executed by being sent into the past and stalked by a posse. The man is given a three day head start to acclimate to the new time and find a way to survive.

Hey look kids, Orville news! The Orville season three is still on it’s way, coming to Hulu and Jonathan Frakes has only heard good things, however he won’t be directing this season revealing to comic book dot com that Star and creator Seth McFarlane and Producing Director John Cassar will direct every episode of the season. However Frakes is hoping to get to play in an acting way saying quote”I keep waiting for a phone call. I am available. I’ve got a beard,” “I would just like to be, just like I hoped and dreamed of being on [The Big Bang Theory], there’s certain things, the absurdity factor, like the Pez dispensers and the garden gnomes, certain benchmarks we all want to reach.” unquote. Maybe I should bug Tom Costantino about that, see if he can make something happen.

HBO is working on a new series based on the Hellraiser movies. The show would come from writers Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty and David Gordon Green. This is seperate from the movie reboot of the franchise that’s coming from SpyGlass Media. The show will be a continuation and expansion of the film series .

Finally tonight, we say goodbye to actor Gene Dynarski. Gene made a few appearances in the Star Trek Franchise First appearing as miner Ben Childress in Mudd’s Women, then playing Krodak, in The Mark of Gideon. He would return on the Next Generation as Commander Quinteros in the episode 11001001. His other roles include Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Duel, an Episode of Batman as well as Seinfeld, The XFiles, The ATeam, Little House on the Prairie and much more. He passed away in a rehabilitation center in Studio City California on February 27th. He was 86.

We also say farewell to actor Sam Lloyd best known for his role of Ted on Scrubs and Cougar town, passed away on April 30th. He will be known to genre fans for  roles in 1997’s Flubber and Galaxy Quest. He also had roles on dozens of shows from Night Court to Seinfeld to The Drew Carey Show to 3rd Rock from the sun, the West Wing, Modern Family and more. Usually playing a very deadpan character. Sam was also an accomplished singer singing in an acapella group The Blanks and a Beatles Tribute band called The Butties. This past January he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor which also became metastatic lung cancer that spread to his liver, spine and jaw. He is survived by his wife Vanessa, his one year old son Weston and his uncle Christopher Lloyd. He was 56 years old.

Marvel comics is returning, Greg Berlanti gives to covid relief and Tank Girl is back!

Welcome to the Comic book edition of Multiverse Tonight.   This is episode seventy five, getting ever closer to one hundred. Think life will get back to normal by time that episode number hits?

Spring Fever has hit and we need something to do, don’t we.  Apparently it’s camping and fishing here in Kansas.  It’ll be a wait and see as people start mingling more if Covid 19 cases start to go up here. The stay at home order is lifting and things are being slowly opened back up. Even some stores like comic book stores could open…but will they have new comics to stock? That’s a big question right now. And will we ever be more news then we know what to do with again? I guess we’ll see. Let’s get to the news….

DC

Wonder Woman 1984 might be out so late that the doritos bags will have changed by the time it hits theaters in August. But we now have it’s official rating . Wonder Woman 84 is rated PG13 by the MPAA due to sequences of action and violence. Of course, it could always be pushed back again. Even the stars don’t know if it’ll make the date. Actress Connie Nielsen told ABC News quote “I don’t know about the August deadline there. We can all cross fingers and I sure hope so,”. “The invention of a remedy against this virus will certainly make everything a lot easier. Everyone is waiting to get back to work as well, we’re all waiting to get started on our next projects, so having access to either a vaccine or at least a remedy will be a good thing for us all.” unquote

The Batman will see Colin Farrell in facial prosthetics to play Penguin. Not quite to the level that Danny Devito was in for Batman returns. Maybe a sharp beaked nose? Trouble is I think Colin Farrell should definitely be in a fat suit as a fit penguin doesn’t seem right.

Wanna watch the DC Universe original animated series Harley Quinn, but don’t wanna pay for it? The first season will be airing on Syfy on Sundays in May starting this past Sunday. It’ll be airing at 11 pm Eastern Time. Season two is currently airing on the DC Universe app.

Arrowverse Producer Greg Berlanti has donated a million dollars to Corona virus release efforts. Berlanti will create a 6 hundred thousand emergency assistance fund for those working on Berlanti Productions and 4 hundred thousand will go to the SAG AFTRA COVID relief fund, the actors fund and the Motion Picture television Fund Emergency relief Fund. The Berlanti fund will mainly be for productions that were shut down mid production like Batwoman, Doom Patrol, The Flash, Riverdale, The Flight Attendant, Supergirl, and  Prodigal Son.

Marvel

J August richards, who plays Dathlok on Marel’s Agents of Shield and now apperars on the NBC series Council of Dads has officialy come out as gay. He came out on Instagram Live with his co star Sarah wayne Callies quote  “If I think about why I even got involved in this industry, it was really to combat oppression,” “I knew how I was affected by the people of color I saw on television, or that I didn’t see on television, so this being a married, gay man, with a family … on television, I don’t take anything I do lightly, and you have an opportunity to put an image into millions of homes. I wanted that image to be honest and I wanted it to be correct.”, “Honestly, it required me to show up fully in a way that I don’t always when I’m working. I knew that I could not portray this gay man honestly without letting you all know that I am a gay man myself. I’ve never done that with the people that I’ve worked with.” “That responsibility carried me to do that because I knew how important it is to other people out there like me, who would need to see that role model.”

It will be a while before we see Thor Love and Thunder but according to Chris Hemsworth it’s the best he’s read in years. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Hemsworth said,“It’s one of the best scripts I’ve read in years. It’s Taika at his most extreme, and at his best. If the version I read is the one we get running with, it’s going to be pretty insane.” unquote Maybe taika should get Chris to do a guest shot on What we Do in the Shadows. Thor Love and Thunder is now scheduled for February eleventh, 2022.

More pushed back movie news. Doctor Strange and the Multiverese of Madness has been pushed all the way from November fifth 2021 to March 25, 2022. That’s the second push back for the movie, the first was from May to November.

The next Spiderman movie has been moved back from the summer of 2021 to November fifth 2021.

Also moving is Spider-Man into the Spider Verse 2 going from April eighth, 2022 to October 7, 2022.

Guilmemmo Del toro is bringing you some More Scary Stories to tell you in the dark. Paramount has greenlit the sequel to the 2019 movie based on the short story collection by Alvin Schwartz. Guilermo will write the screen story along with Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman with Andre Ovredal returning to direct the sequel.

Tank Girl is back with  a new publisher. This time Albatross Funnybooks, the publisher of the Goon. Previously the character has been published at DC, IDW, Image and Titan. The new series will be called King tank Girl and will be written by co creator Alan Martin with art by Brett Parson. According to Eric Powell, the Publisher of Albatross Funny Books quote “Alan Martin and Brett Parson have been doing some amazing Tank Girl stuff lately, and Brett just did a run of The Goon for us […] they kind of approached me and were like, ‘Hey, we’re looking for another home for Tank Girl, would you be interested?’ And, you know, of course I was interested because it fits right in with everything we’ve been doing. It’s a character that I think sets beside all the comics we have very, very nicely.” Its original launch was planned differentyly, quote “So this was supposed to be our big announcement that was launching in July. Our big Comic-Con push,” Powell admitted. “Comic-Con is now canceled and we’re scrambling to try to figure out when our releases are actually gonna happen. But, since it’s the apocalypse, I thought everybody would like to know that Tank Girl is coming to Albatross Funnybooks.”unquote King Tank Girl is scheduled for the fall.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that a follow-up for the upcoming Snake-Eyes Gi Joe Origins is already in the works. The Snake Eyes movie doesn’t open until October, but writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse are already in negotiations to write it. Snake Eyes is being used to reboot the GiJoe Movie Franchise.

Tonight! Obi-Wan gets a new writer, Marina Sirtis has a virtual party and we remember a lot of people, all that and more on this edition of multiverse Tonight!

Episode 70:

So I hope you’re still well, I’m doing okay. We in Kansas are under a stay at home order, but my job is considered essential. So off I go 5 nights a week and in a couple of weeks, I’ll be moving to days, so my recording schedule is probably going to change.  For those of you outside the US who think our leadership has totally botched this, you’re right.

Star Wars

The Rise of Skywalker could have been a completely different movie several times over. The final Skywalker Saga film was written by one writer, scrapped and then rewritten again. Well hints of what that movie would have been have been coming out these past few weeks including in a book called The art of Star Wars the rise of Skywalker that is out now. It has different takes on Rey, Ben solo and an early scene from the movie. The scene would have had Rey encountering a giant serpent in the forest near the rebel base. Luke Fisher, creature concept designer Luke Fisher said about it quote “Initially, Rey was to encounter the serpent in the surrounding forest of the rebel base,” “Upon presenting a round of designs, J.J. informed us that it was no longer in the script, but he would look at the designs anyway. He really liked the direction I’d taken with serpent designs and joked that maybe they should write it back into the script.”

“I presumed that was the last we’d see of the serpent. Sometime later, we got word that it had indeed been written back in, this time in an underground cave system,” unquote The book is out now and retails for around twenty eight dollars.

Solo A Star Wars Story….didn’t do so well. It limped along at the box office and got poor reviews. So bad that the Star Wars one off series of films were axed. But would it surprise you that a social media campaign has been spurred called #MakeSolo2Happen and Ron Howard has been quoted as saying that a sequel wouldn’t be out of the question.

The Obi-Wan series which was yanked back for retooling has a new writer. Variety reports that Joby Harold has been sent in to replace Hossein Amini. Harold was previously executive producer of John Wick 3 and wrote Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Ewan McGregor is still slated to reprise Ben kenobi. No additional details about when we’ll see the series have been presented.

Well sorry to squash you like the Emperor squasing the rebellion, but ain’t happening according to writer Jonathan Kasdan. The writer took to twitter in response to a tweet about it saying quote Don’t think anyone’s pursuing a Solo sequel at the moment @KenobiJj  I think a feature, at this point, would be a tough sell & the D+ Star Wars slate is really…pretty packed, all shows I’m looking forward to. My work on Indy is long over but I’m excited there’s forward movement! He also followed up on why it couldn’t just be converted into a show for Disney Plus saying quote Certainly appreciate but hard to advocate for & here’s why: with multiple SW series in development/production, set at different points in the timeline. Without knowing what stories they’re telling (& I don’t) hard to know what a Solo series would even be with so much on the way. Unquote. So in other words, not likely. You’d have better luck kissing a wookie.

With the Coronovirus putting Disney’s business in carbonite, Disney’s Chairman Bob Iger has announced that he will forgo his salary, while New Disney CEO Bob Chapek will just take half his salary. If you’re wondering what his salary is, an email obtained by the Hollywood Reporter puts Chapek’s base salary at 2.5 million with an annual target bonus of 7.5 million and an annual long term incentive grant of 15 million.  Iger’s pay last year was around 47.5 million. I applaud this, I think Chapek could cut his pay to just a million or so and make sure those Disney employees get every dime they deserve, as this crisis will probably last a few more months.

Star Trek

Star Trek Picard is done for the season. I loved it, I loved how it put Data’s demise in Nemesis in context and I think with a good enough ending that Brent Spiner can finally put the character to bed.

However for some the show has been controversial, they’ve been unhappy with the state of the Federation at this point, with the drug use, saying that the characterization of Picard is wrong.

In an interview with variety, Showrunner Michael Chabon told them he knows that the show is divisive and he doesn’t mind at all.

Responding to a question about the fan response he said that quote It’s been pretty exciting. I think inevitably I spent a fair amount of time looking around on Twitter and Reddit, you know, trying to get a sense of people’s responses. Twitter’s kind of a horrible place, too, so I wasn’t really encouraged to spend too much time looking around. But then I came up with this forum, setting up an Instagram story once a week to take people’s questions. One of my children showed me how you could use Instagram in that way, and that’s been really fun for me. As someone who spent a fair amount of time over the years on Memory Alpha, looking on Reddit, enjoying the way people enjoy “Star Trek” online — it’s been so fun to see [the show] getting absorbed into the kind of greater corpus of “Star Trek.” What makes me feel good is when I see it being treated, in a sense, the same by fans as previous versions of the show. Unquote  By the way, did you know that he’s a fan? In fact he hated the first season of The Next Generation when it premiered. It wasn’t until the second season that he started to see how good it could be. And he knows where the haters are coming from saying quote As someone who’s watched a lot of “Star Trek,” you’re comparing something that you have now seen once with huge expectations, to something that in some cases you’ve seen hundreds of times. It takes a while for you to shed your expectations, your biases, your prejudices. I was prejudiced in favor of Mr. Spock, Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy. It took a long time to lose that. Unquote

IN the interview he also talks about how the fan response doesn’t factor into the prep for season two.  He says in the interview that season two WILL be different from season one. And that they’ve been emboldened by the success of season one.

Folks I could go on and on about this article, but it would be pointless of me, be sure to head on over to variety dot com and read it’s an interesting look at the first season of Picard and the man behind it. I’ll have a link to it in the show notes. https://variety.com/2020/tv/features/michael-chabon-star-trek-picard-1203544717/

Patrick Stweart was a guest on the official Star Trek Picard Podcast and talked about Picard’s state of mind and his future post the first season He told host Dominic Patten quote He has no idea where he is at because he has no idea what the future now might hold for him, which is what I think makes the matter of season two so exciting. He has pulled off a very, very successful mission throughout the first 10 episodes of season one. And he feels that therefore he can be certain that his abilities have not become fractured. His skills as an ambassador, as a negotiator, as a decision maker, are still present. Given that he can bring to them the right sort of mental attitude and focus. I think…he is actually excited by the ignorance that he feels about the future. He doesn’t know, and he would rather be at the point of undertaking something he doesn’t know anything about than sitting on the veranda at his vineyard in France. Unquote   Very interesting, Picard right now is essentially living on borrowed time. He’s been granted a few more years of life, so what will he do with the time he has left? I kinda doubt it’ll be going back to his vineyards in France.

In the same podcast Akiva Goldsman gave an update on where they are on the plot of season two saying that they are still working it out. Michael Chabon in an article with The Hollywood Reporter, Chabon talked about how thrilled he was to write for Whoopi Goldberg’s Guinan. Saying quote  It’s amazing. I’ve gone back to rewatch some of the more key Guinan episodes from Next Gen, the major Picard and Guinan moments. She’s such an amazing actor; I can’t wait.

Season two is gonna be interesting.

The Covid 19 virus has ruined many a celebration. Social distancing has meant that weddings have had to be held with 10 or fewer people. Funerals have had to be a very intimate affair and birthdays have had to become drive bys or done in cyber space and so when Marina Sirtis, who just celebrated her sixty fifth birthday couldn’t have her cast mates from The Next Generation together to celebrate, the cast came together via Zoom to wish her a happy birthday.  Patrick Stewart, LeVar Burton, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, and Wil Wheaton. Marina posted a screen shot of the meeting on twitter with the caption I have the best friends in the world. Considering everything, this was the best birthday present. Unquote Gates added on her twitter quote “Different shot, but same amazing group. What a blast it was to chat away….and laugh. felt so good, and Levar wrote quote “Overcoming the distance… #family.” unquote Happy Birthday Marina.

Turning to shows other than Picard, Jonathan Frakes speaking with Star Trek Magazine, talked about season three of Discovery said quote  Discovery feels to me like my home show now. I just finished Episode 3, Season 3. We’re far in the future now and Burnham has been separated from the [Discovery] crew, and then they reunite. I was talking with Sonequa. We were talking about acting. She’s one of those actors – not unlike Patrick – where you can give a note and it’s like a fine musician. It’s just enough to get in tune on that particular beat, or that micro transition, as opposed to when you give a note to somebody who doesn’t have the technique, and they drop everything else and only play the note you’ve just given them. Sonequa and Patrick and most of these actors have that [technique]. I said to her, “This character is so appealing and interesting and complicated, and always has been, but there’s a little more joy [now].” She said to me, “Because Burnham is now no longer driven by fear and guilt.” I thought, “Wow.” unquote Sounds like we’re gonna be getting a different Michael Burnham this season.

About the challenges of the show’s new setting 930 years from the last season he said quote They are all so thrilled. That’s the adventure, technically, financially, emotionally. You can create worlds that nobody has seen before because you’re not limited by anything. That’s freeing. But it’s also completely exhausting because even a show this big has to stay on a budget. Everything can’t be created digitally. Some of the stuff has to be real. We just have to have some things you can touch. In the future, obviously, there could be a lot of stuff that’s holographic or where your mind is connected to something. These are all things we know are coming, just from the way we use our iPhones to run our lives and plan our trips. So, finding a future that’s futuristic but is practical to shoot has been fascinating. You can’t get caught up in the technology. It is about maintaining a basic core of why we’re there, which is to tell emotionally compelling stories. That has been the driving force, as opposed to the other way

around. Nobody is making the mistake of, “This has to look cool.” It’s great when things look cool, but if you don’t give a damn about the people or what’s happening, it doesn’t matter. Unquote  Star Trek Magazine issue seventy five is out now.

Netflix, much loved and needed  as it is today, is still a business and Variety has confirmed that both V-Wars and October Faction have been canceled by the streamer. Both shows were produced by IDW Entertainment. Some good news for IDW though, as Locke Locke & Key has been given the green light for a second season.  Still need to work on watching season one of Locke & Key.

This year is turning into a real crap fest for theater owners this year. Pretty much the whole spring and fall movie season has been lost. Well good news the National Association of Theater Owners and the Pioneers Assistance Fund has created an initial 2.4 million dollar fund to help provide financial assistance to movie theater owners who are in a pickle with this pandemic.  The two organizations have said that the first part of this plan will be a grant program that will provide a stipend to theater workers that meet specific criteria such having worked for a minimum of five years.

Speaking of films, the Hollywood foreign Press association, the people who bring us the FGolden Globe awards is altering their film eligibility rules for the 2021 awards because of the pandemic. With theaters shuttered until such time as this is under control, the Golden Globes has suspended the rule that a film must be screened for HFPA members at a third party facility in the greater los angeles area. Instead according to an article in Variety quote  The new guidelines state that distributors must contact the HFPA to arrange a screening date on the official HFPA calendar that meets the timing requirements of the Golden Globes eligibility rules. Distributors must provide all HFPA members with a screening link or a DVD copy of the film on the date that the screening is scheduled so that members may view it at home. It will be in effect from March 15 through April 30, 2020. Unquote. This is kind of similar to how the Oscars are picked. So far the Oscars haven’t announced any changes for next year, but watch this space.

And so much more. He can be seen in the Star Wars sequel trilogy movies The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi as Caluan Ematt and voiced Moloch in Solo A Star Wars Story and at the time of his passing he was working on The Batman. His widow Gabrielle Rogers wrote on Twitter about his passing quote “We lost a man today. Andrew Jack was diagnosed with coronavirus two days ago. He was in no pain, and he slipped away peacefully knowing that his family were all ‘with’ him”. Unquote. He was 76 years old.

The coronovirus has also claimed another actor who’s appeared in Star Wars, acotr Jay Benedict. Amonth his first roles ever was that of Deak, one of Luke Skywalkers friends, however the scene ended up on the cutting room floor. He also played the role of Newt’s father in Aliens and had an apperance in The Dark Knight Rises. He was 68 years old.

Lee Fierro, who is best known for playing Mrs. Kintner, the mother of the second Jaws victim in the classic movie has passed away from complications from the virus according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times. Lee was a resident of Martha’s Vineyard originally, but had been living in an assisted care facility in Ohio when she died. She was 91 years old.

Tonight! The comic industry is in peril and everything has been pushed back on this edition of multiverse tonight!

Welcome to Episode 71, I will admit right here that the comic edition is a bit of a struggle to put together these days, no new comic product coming out, no new tv or movie product really coming out. But I believe that it’ll come together, even if it’s just a few news items. As I mentioned in Episode 70, I’m taking a new job at work and will now be working the day shift. I don’t know my schedule yet, so be sure to watch the Multiverse Tonight social media accounts for any changes.

DC

Marvel and DC, in a rare show of cooperation. Will be delaying the release of digital comic books for one week while brick and mortar stores are shut down due to the social distancing measures, this comes just days after Diamond Distributors announced it would not be shipping any product until future notice.  As to how long this will continue is unknown. If you are a comic book store owner in the United States and need to know how the government can help you keep the doors open, go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund’s website.

And while we wait for any new product, why not buy every DC comic ever made in one collection. Sotheby’s announced that it will be auctioning DC Complete: The Ian Levine Collection, a collection that includes every DC Comic published from 1935 to 2016. The collection has more than 40,000 comics and is now available to be viewed online at Sotheby’s website.

From one Apocalypse to another. Comicbook.com has learned that the DC animated movie Justice League Dark: Apokolips War will serve as the capstone to the Justice League animated universe started in 2013’s Justice League The Flashpoint Paradox. The movie features Matt Ryan’s John Constantine, Jerry O’Connell’s Superman, Tony Todd’s Darkseid, Rosario Dawson’s WonderWoman and Rainn Wilson’s Lex Luthor. The movie is set for digital release on May fifth with a Bluray release on May 19th.

Zack Snyder during a live commentary for Batman V Superman revealed several key points. First That every shot in the film was storyboarded. So many storyboards he has them in four volumes. And that he encourages the crew to look at the storyboards rather than the script. Two, Ben Affleck got in trouble with the stunt supervisor for the way he hoped out of the helicopter in the opening scene and that Amy Adams does not like flying in helicopters. Three, The collapse of Wayne Tower was intentionally reminiscent of  nine eleven and that it was important for the quote psychic trauma unquote to Bruce Wayne. A source of secondary trauma second only to the death of his parents Also that the massive amounts of damage sustained by Metropolis during the Superman Zod fight was because quote “I don’t like the idea that there’s no consequence, that these characters get to knock around in our world and don’t create and solve giant problems.” unquote Four, The Superman in Africa scene was originally going to be a much bigger scene, but Snyder decided to go simpler. Snyder also saw a five movie arc and that dead is dead. Jimmy Olsen was never going to come back quote “The ones that die off, die off for a reason,” “hopefully they teach us something as they go” unquote Olsen’s death would have had larger consequences if the arc had continued. Lastly, Mister Snyder said that he was interested in exploring how Superman’s mortality is perceived and how it changes when it becomes tied to foreign wars and political hearings. Quote “Superman with his clean morality having to deal with these grey areas is what this whole thing is about,” There were a lot more points and I’ll have a link in the show notes to an article at the hollywoodreporter it’s an interesting look .https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/zack-snyder-shares-secrets-lost-batman-v-superman-sequels-1287433

A little business news, Warner Media, the corporate entity that has the life and death of DC in its hands. Has named a new CEO, Former Hulu CEO Jason Kilar will be taking over from John Stankey who is moving over to the role of president and COO of parent company AT&T . Kilar will be reporting to Stankey starting on May first.  Stankey about Mr. Kilar said quote Adding Jason to the talented WarnerMedia family as we launch HBO Max in May gives us the right management team to strategically position our leading portfolio of brands, world-class talent and rich library of intellectual property for future growth.” unquote Kilar is well suited to oversee HBO Max, being the founding CEO of Hulu from 2007 to 2013.

Marvel

Professor X James McAvoy is helping to save the United Kingdom in real life, The actor has donated two hundred seventy five pounds which is roughly  three hundred forty thousand dollars US to the UK Health Service for Protective Gear desperately needed for this Coronavirus Crisis. He donated the money to the crowdfunding campaign Masks for Heroes, which was set up by a group of doctors in the United Kingdom to raise money for masks, visors and gloves, Mr. McAvoy’s money pushed the total so far to 700,000 pounds (868, 000 US) more than three times the original goal. In a video on Instagram the actor said quote “We’ve all heard stories about doctors and nurses having to buy their own personal protective equipment from the Internet or DIY stores, and the products aren’t good enough and frankly neither is that situation,” he said in an Instagram video. “Not only does it put the doctors and nurses at risk of contracting COVID-19 themselves, but it puts them at a higher risk of passing it on to their patients, or their patients family and giving them COVID-19. This situation is truly urgent, and time is of the essence.”

McAvoy also took time to praise the health workers at the NHS who he said were “fighting a war” against COVID-19.  “Thank you so much to the NHS for everything you’ve done for me in my life,” he said. “You’ve been there since the day I was born. You’ve saved my life in the past and, who knows, you may save my life again in the future. And I’m so glad we’re trying to raise some money to help save your lives going forward.” unquote Good job, Professor X. And for those of you listening in the UK, stay safe and if you would, drop me a line and let me know how you’re doing.

The Black Widow movie is doing the Corona Virus shuffle and will head to theaters on November sixth, which was when Marvel’s The Eternals movie would have come out. Hachette is putting out Marvel Comics retrospective The Marvel Art of Georg Perez in December. George is known for his multiple runs on The Avengers from 1970 to the 90s. He also penciled the first part of the Infinity Gauntlet limited series.  Perez retired from comics in January of 019. Here’s a description of the book quote “Celebrating the artistic legacy of a true Marvel Comics legend! George Pérez first wowed fans in the 1970s, building a phenomenal reputation as a super-team illustrator without peer on Avengers, Inhumans and Fantastic Four! His talents graced the super hero action of Marvel Two-In-One, the martial arts mayhem of Deadly Hands of Kung Fu and the monster madness of Man-Wolf in Creatures on the Loose! Years later, Pérez demonstrated his cosmic grandeur by wiping out half the Marvel Universe along with Thanos in Infinity Gauntlet! And as the Avengers made a heroic return in 1998, so too did Pérez, joining writer Kurt Busiek to usher Earth’s Mightiest into a new era of greatness. Nobody can draw an army of heroes in a single image better than George Pérez!” unquote

The Hollywood reporter reports that Antman 3 might have found it’s writer in Rick and Morty writer and co producer Jeff Loveness. Director Peyton Reed is set to return as director with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily set to return as well. According to their sources, the writing has commenced.

Like Four Past Midnight, Different Seasons, and most recently Full Dark, No Stars, If It Bleeds is a uniquely satisfying collection of longer short fiction by an incomparably gifted writer.”

Season eleven of Archer has been pushed back, the season was supposed to start on May sixth but will be pushed back to sometime later this year. According to a statement from FX Networks, the delay is due to production challenges and scheduling issues. The show is made in Georgia.

A couple of passings to report. First off, this person may not be a comic book, sci fi or really a geeky celebrity, but for those of us who watched the show wings, we know him as the scumbag owner of AeroMass Airlines on the 1990’s Cheers spinoff Wings. Actor David Schramm has passed away. David Schramm was a founding member of the New York based The Acting Company and made his first appearance on Broadway in 1973. From 1990 to 1997, he played Roy Biggins, the owner of the competing airline to struggling Sandpiper Air. He is the only actor in the show to have appeared in every episode. He was 73 years old.

Sadly, this one was tragically young. Teen actor Logan Williams, how portrayed young Barry Allen in the flashbacks on The Flash suddenly passed away at the young age of sixteen. His co-star and series lead Grant Gustin posted a tribute to the actor on Instagram saying quote Just hearing the devastating news that Logan Williams has passed away suddenly. I was so impressed by not only Logan’s talent but his professionalism on set. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and his family during what is I’m sure an unimaginably difficult time for them. Please keep Logan and his family in your thoughts and prayers during what has been a strange and trying time for us all. Sending love to everyone.

And that brings us to the end of the comic book news. *Show Ender*

Tonight! It’s a world wide Pandemic, so what does that mean for entertainment, let’s find out on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Multiverse Tonight 68

Welcome to Episode 68 of Multiverse tonight. Wow. What a difference two weeks makes. To start off with, I hope this episode finds you well and safe, wherever in the world you are. Two weeks ago, I was doing okay, the world was doing okay and then the Coronavirus breaks out and all hell breaks loose.

My family and I are all fine so far. Kansas has had kind of a slow spread to the contagion. Just a lot of bare store shelves at Walmart and Dollar general stores. But it’s comin’ this way and it’s only a matter of time.

The people I really feel sorry for are the small store owners, like comic book shops, the movie theater owners, the entertainers, the comic book creators, etc.  People, do me a favor. Try to shop or support these people instead of buying massive quantities of toilet paper. Right now we need entertainment to keep our minds of this world of crap we’ve found ourselves in. Let’s go on with the news.

Star Wars

Disney, in order to be nice during this time of Coronavirus, has released the Rise of Skywalker a few days early…on digital. The film was supposed to have been released on March seventeenth, but was instead released March thirteenth. It’s available on Vudu, Apple TV,Itunes, Google play, FandangoNow and Amazon. You can get it in HD or SD for 19.99 or the 4k version for 24.99.

However, the digital release was missing something. Deleted Scenes. However it does have the documentary The Skywalker Legacy, Pasaana Pursuit about the land speeder chase, Aliens in the Desert about the aliens in the desert scenes, D-O Key to the Past about D-O, Warwick and Son about Warwick Davis returning to the Ewok costume and cast of creatures , which is pretty self explanatory. Also the digital exclusive The Maestro’s Finale about John Williams.

Rosario Dawson has joined The Mandalorian season two as fan favorite Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano. The character was Akakin Skywalker’s padawan in the Clone Wars animated series and had a role in the Rebels animated series. Season two is due out in October.

Show runner Damon Lindelof says he’d love to do something with Star Wars…when he’s not going to be blamed for ruining it. Speaking with Fandom dot com he said quote “And, at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe,” “Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.” Hmmm. You know, I would like to see what Lindeloff would do with Star Wars. Might be interesting.

Star Trek

CBS and Simon and Shuster have a new Star Trek Discovery novel in the pipeline, this time aimed at the Section 31 storyline. Star trek Discovery Die Standing looks at the life of Emperor Phillippa Georgiou, after her exile into the regular star trek universe. The book will show how she transitioned into the Section 31 role and her desire to either try to build a new Empire or go in whole heart into her new role. The book will also see her cross paths with the third host of the Dax symbiont Emony. Here’s the synopsis quote “No one in the history of histories has lost more than Philippa Georgiou, ruler of the Terran Empire. Forced to take refuge in the Federation’s universe, she bides her time until Section 31, a rogue spy force within Starfleet, offers her a chance to work as their agent. She has no intention of serving under anyone else, of course; her only interest is escape.”But when a young Trill, Emony Dax, discovers a powerful interstellar menace, Georgiou recognizes it as a superweapon that escaped her grasp in her own universe. Escorted by a team sent by an untrusting Federation to watch over her, the emperor journeys to a region forbidden to travelers. But will what she finds there end the threat—or give “Agent Georgiou” the means to create her old empire anew?

Star Trek Discovery Die Standing goes on sale on July fourteenth.

CNN Business says that the one thing that helps CBS ALL Access stand out is Star Trek, speaking with senior analyst Jeff Bock from the entertainment research firm Exhibitor Relations. Jeff told them quote “Star Trek is as important to ViacomCBS as Star Wars is to Disney,” “Basically, it’s a never-ending stream of content.”  ViacomCBS is trying to make the most of the Star Trek franchise even saying on a recent earning call that they are taking the franchise and quote  “extending it across the house,” unquote. Julie McNamara executive VP and head of programming for CBS All Access has called it quote … a great tentpole for us.” unquote  Do you agree?

By the way, if you’re needing some fresh trek to watch and you don’t want to pay for All Access, Star Trek Short Treks is coming to Bluray and DCD in June. The collection of short subjects will have nine of the episodes including  “Runaway,” “Calypso,” “The Brightest Star,” “The Escape Artist,” “Q&A,” “The Trouble With Edward,” “Ask Not,” “Ephraim & Dot,” and “The Girl Who Made the Stars.” The Children of Mars episode is the only one not in the collection. Probably to be included on the home release of Star trek Picard. Also included is some documentary features, each about a particular episode. Also included is a making about the short treks and two commentaries on Runaway and Ask Not. The disc will be released on June second.

Star Trek Picard has hired writer and podcaster Marc Bernardin as a supervising producer on season two. Bernardin, besides being Kevin Smith’s co-host on Kevin Smith’s Fatman Beyond podcast, has written on Syfy’s Alphas and Hulu’s Castle Rock. Bernardin isn’t new to Star Trek, having worked as an intern on Star trek Deep Space Nine.

Picard showrunner Michael Chabon would love to make an MCU Adam Warlock movie. This came from an Instagram Q&A session when he was asked if there were any superheroes he connected with.  This is not the first time he’s expressed interest in Adam Warlock, in a 2012 interview with the New York Times, he also mentioned that Warlock would be a dream project for him.

Discovery star Sonequa Martin Green is expecting. The actress revealed this on Instagram with a photo of herself and her husband Kenric Green and their son with the caption Adding another passenger to the Green train! All aboard little lady, this train is fueled by Love and we’re already overflowing with it for you unquote. Star Trek Discovery is currently not in production having wrapped on season three back in February.

Creation Entertainment has announced a big get for the 19th annual Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. Kelsey Grammer will be making his first ever convention appearance. Mister Grammar might be best known to some as Frasier Crane from Cheers and Frasier or Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons, but to Trek fans he is known for his appearance as Captain Bateson in the Season five next Gen episode Cause and effect. It’ll be very interesting to see…if the con happens….

As the coronavirus has continued to spread around the world, shaking hands as a form of greeting has become ill advised. So what to replace it with. Some fans, including some lawmakers have suggested a greeting familiar to Star Trek fans everywhere. The Vulcan greeting.  For those of you who don’t know. That would be a raised hand with your palm to your greetee with your fingers splayed between your ring and middle fingers. An attending physician at a closed door meeting of the House Demoratic Caucus even suggested it. So, while we wait for this Pandemic to end, shall we enlighten others? Live long and prosper.

Geek

So let’s go down a list of every production either shut down or delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, shall we? We have, The Witcher, the Handmaid’s tale, the Amazon Lord of the Rings series, that Goonies pilot, Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wandavision, Supernatural, Snowpiercer, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead shows, Batwomen, Y: The Last Man, The Wheel of Time, The Flash, Superman and Lois, Riverdale, Carnival row, Supergirl, Lucifer, Pennyworth, The Orville and a lot of pilots. On the film side, The Avatar sequels, Matrix 4, uncharted, Fantastic Beasts 3, The Batman, Jurassic world Dominion, Shang-Chi, the Little Mermaid, Nightmare Alley, Home Alone, Peter Pan & Wendy, Shrunk, and  Mission Impossible 7. A lot of these have only shut down for a couple of weeks, some even longer.

To complicate matters for movie fans in the United States , AMC, Regal

and other theater chains have shut down. AMC will be shut down for six to twelve weeks. So the Summer movie season is pretty much gone. Even the Razzies ceremony was cancelled, instead the awards were announced via Youtube video. The Razzies were supposed to be handed out on March fourteenth. Winner for Worst Picture was Cats, Worst Actor went to John Travolta in The Fanatic as well as trading Paint, Hilary Duff took away the Worst Actress for The Haunting of Sharon tate, James Corden won Worst Supporting Actor for his role in Cats, he joins Rebel Wilson who got the Worst Supporting Actress award for Cats, Worst Screen combo went to any two people on the screen of Cats, Tom Hooper for Worst Director for Cats and also took away worst screenplay with Lee Hall for Cats, Rambo Last Blood won Worst remake, rip off or sequel as well as Worst reckless Disregard for Human life and public property and Eddie Murphy won the Razzie Redeemer award for Dolomite is my name. They all deserve what they got…admit it.

Right now an estimated 120,000 entertainment industry crew jobs have been lost by this pandemic

But there is help, Netflix has created a 100 million dollar relief fund for the hundreds of thousands suddenly without work in hollywood as productions have shut down for the outbreak. In a letter on Netflix’s company blog the chief content officer said quote”This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide. Most of the fund will go towards support for the hardest hit workers on our own productions around the world… This is in addition to the two weeks pay we’ve already committed to the crew and cast on productions we were forced to suspend last week.”  unquote The money will not just be for netflix productions but the industry as a whole. Netflix is also donating to the SAG AFTRA Covid 19 Disaster Fund, and the Motion Picture and Television Fund and the Actors Fund Emergency Assistance in the U.S., as well as another million split between the AFC and Fondation des Artistes. Good deal, we shall get past this.

While we wait for The Orville, Dark Horse Comics has announced a season 2.5 comic mini series made up of two two issue series, the first is called  Launch Day. quote in which seemingly hostile Krill ships cross into Union space and the Orville intercepts. Captain Mercer learns they are en route to a planet that left the Union decades ago, under mysterious circumstances. Scans have discovered a moon-sized construct above the planet, and the Krill intend a preemptive strike against the presumed weapon. But is it? Unquote  Orville Executive Producer David A Good man will be on writing duties, joined by artist David Cabeza and colorist Michael Atiyeh. And will be out on June third.

The American Box Office officially hit a new low this past weekend. Zero.  As in nothing as in all theaters have been shuttered and nothing new was released so Zero.  Not even any official reporting. According to Box Office Mojo, the final box office report was on Thursday the nineteenth with a total of 143, 641 dollars for all 36 films in just 233 theaters.

Actor Lyle Waggoner has passed away. The actor best known for The Carol Burnett Show and the 80’s Wonder Woman series died of illness at his home on the seventeenth of March. Waggoner started out as an announcer on the Carol Burnett Show, but soon became an actor in the sketches. After leaving the Carol Burnett Show, he got hired for the role of Colonel Steve Trevor Jr on the 1975 wonder Woman series where he worked aside Linda Carter for four years. Among his other acting credits are “Charlie’s Angels,” “Happy Days,” Mork & Mindy,” “The Golden Girls,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Ellen,” “The Naked Truth” and “That ’70s Show”. His last on screen acting role was in 2005’s “The War at Home,” but in 2017 he made an appearance on the Carol Burnett Show 50th anniversary special. Lyle Waggoner passed away at home after a long illness, he was 84.

And now let’s end with something to soothe the soul. A little moment of Zen if you will. Patrick Stewart reading Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116. Take it away Sir.  https://twitter.com/i/status/1241506250086666241

Tonight! Comic Book shops are depending on you! Find out more on this editon of Multiverse Tonight!

Welcome to Episode 69 of Multiverse tonight.

DC

Production on Y The Last Man might have stopped due to the Coronavirus. Kind of ironic considering it takes place after a male apocalypse happens on the Earth. Coincidentally, the show has gained a cast member according to Deadline Elliot Fletcher has joined as Yorrick’s best friend Sam. The character is described as quote “Hero Brown’s best friend, and enabler. His background (he grew up in poverty with absent parents), has made him resourceful and resilient in a world where surviving men are greeted with suspicion or worse. Street smart but occasionally self-destructive, he is wry and funny, with a big heart.” unquote . The show starring Barry Keoghan as Yorrick is due out later this year. Maybe, we’ll see.

Another production closed due to Covid 19 is The Batman. Interestingly enough originally it was gonna continue filming but with precautions, however they halted it a few days ago as it was filming in London.  However there are a couple of tidbits to report on. Peter Sarsgaard on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert revealed that his character will be named Gil Colson and will be a shady Gotham politician. Aren’t all Gotham politicians shady?

Actor Jeffrey Wright, who is playing Jim Gordon in the movie hinted at  fans on Instagram that The Long Halloween is gonna see some love in the movie.  Posting a pic of the trade paperback edition of the mini series with the words Another for the culture. The Long Halowween was written and illustrated by the team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale and took place  at the beginning of Batman’s career as he tried to solve the mystery of the holiday killer.

Aquaman 2 is on the horizon and in a now deleted tweet by Aquaman 2 writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick tweeted a response to a fan question that might point at Black Manta.  In response to a question about what would be a good comic book to read while being locked down, David responded quote “Hmm…good question,” “We’re not taking any one particular comic book story and adapting it, but if you want to know the vibe we’re going for, pick up pretty much any Silver Age story featuring Black Manta.” unquote So if this hint is strong, it looks like Black Manta will strike back against Aquaman in the sequel. Aquaman 2 is due in theaters in December 2022.

Even with the coronavirus stopping or delaying productions and right now DC’s Black Adam is due to start filming this summer (my guess is that it’s up in the air right now) Of course, that doesn’t mean that Dwayne the Rock Johnson stops training. As he posted in Instagram quote  “Same game, different levels. Same hell, different devils. Training for Black Adam, where the devils may change, but hell still stays the same. #dcuniverse #blackadam⚡️ shooting begins this summer @jonbrandoncruz  unquote With a picture of him sweaty and working out. You know what would be more interesting if he said he was no longer working out. That would really be news. Black Adam is due in theaters in December of 2021…unless …

Well while you’re self quarantining yourself, read a comic, Batman number 96 introduces us to a new villain Clown Hunter. James Tynion the fourth indroduced the character in his Tiny onion newslaetter saying quote “Jorge and I just created a new character named CLOWNHUNTER, who shows up in Batman #96, part two of Joker War. I am very, very, very excited about him, and the absolutely brutal wrench he’s going to throw into the mix of that story.” unquote   Guessing he’s not fond of the Joker…or circuses.

Marvel

Let’s start with a couple of quick hits here,Productions have shut down on Loki and shang-chi due to the coronavirus. But we do have some news not covid 19 related…

With Damon Lindelof done with HBO’s Watchmen, he’s looking for other pastures. Perhaps  he could lend his craft to the Marvel Brand? Speaking with Fandom dot com, Damon said quote “I think that doing something in the Marvel universe, anywhere in the Marvel Universe, would be really potentially exciting for me, especially as they start to get a little bit more experimental,” Lindelof says. “Some of the things that I’ve seen for WandaVision, for example, just feel like, ‘Okay, now we’re getting somewhere’. Particularly in a television space.” unquote  He also told them that he wouldn’t mind playing in the Star Wars sand box either.

Iron Man would have gotten…Strange, if a scene had stayed into Infinity War. Kevin Smith on his Fatman Beyond [podcast confirmed that a scene with Doctor Strange in Iron Man’s armor was shot. Mr. Smith knows because he’s seen a photo of it shot by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely Quote “There’s footage or a photo of Robert Downey Jr wearing the cape that came out long before Infinity War came out, so we know they shot it,” Smith said. “We know personally (Smith and his co-host Marc Bernardin) that they shot it because when the writers (came and spoke to us at the house before they left they were like ‘You wanna see something?’ And they pulled out the phone and literally showed us, not just a drawing cause that’s what’s going around the internet is there’s a drawing and it looks badass, but they showed us f***in Sherlock in the Iron Man f***in suit man. Like wearing the suit, with Tony standing next to him wearing the cape, and we were like ‘WHAT THE F***,’ and they were like ‘We can’t say, never talk about it.’ Then it’s out in the world and I’m like ‘We saw that photo!’ It looked badass.” unquote That would be interesting to see. I know there is an artist rendering of it, but I would love to actually see it.

Zendaya has been confirmed to return for the third MCU Spider-man movie, the actor Tom Holland revealed in an interview with Th ePhillippine Daily Inquirer. Production is due to start in July in Atlanta.

Here’s a new book for you to pick up. Marvel has announced a new America Chavez Limited Series. The series called America Chavez: Made in the USA will be written by Kalinda Vazquez and will be drawn by Carlos Gomez. The series will showcase America’s origins and powers and promises ripple effects for America and the world around her. Kalinda in a statement said quote “From the moment America Chavez was introduced into the Marvel Universe I was a fan,” Vazquez said. “It’s such an honor to have the opportunity to tell an America story, and I couldn’t be more excited to have been invited onto this project. Working with Sana Amanat, Annalise Bissa and the rest of the editorial team at Marvel has been so fantastic and I can’t wait for the world to see the incredible artwork that Carlos Gomez has created for this book! In this series, America is going to be tested as she’s never been tested before, and the challenges that she’ll have to face will only force her to pull from even deeper from that well of strength and ferocity that we know lies within her…” unquote America Chavez Made in the usa number one comes out in stores in June.

Geek

We start the Geek News with the reschedule shuffle. Many comic cons have had to either cancel or reschedule their shows because of Covid 19. One of the big ones has been the Emerald City ComicCon which was originally supposed to happen a few weeks ago, but was put on hold. Now it’s been moved to August the twenty first to twenty third. Ticket exchanges for the new event are happening now.

I was supposed to be at Planet Comicon this past weekend, but it was aso rescheduled and will now happen in August as well, the fourteenth through the sixteenth.

Disney is releasing Onward early to digital. With the virus closing down movie theaters, the company will now make the Pixar movie with the talents of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt available to buy digitally now and it will debut on Disney Plus on April third in the US. It’s now the only movie to hurry up amid the crisis. Paramount will put Sonic the Hedgehog up for purchase on March 31, months ahead of the physical release on May nineteenth. Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot will come out on March twenty fourth along with The Invisible Man, Emma, the Hunt and Trolls World Tour. It’s even been rumored that wonder Woman 1984 might get a quickie digital release, but that’s been shot down.

A decision about holding the Comicon International: San Diego will not be made until June according to the San Diego Union Tribune. Currently the San Diego Convention Center has been temporarily turned into a homeless shelter during the CoVid 19 pandemic. Currently the con is scheduled for July 23 to the 26th. WonderCon, it’s sister show in Anaheim was scheduled to take place next month, but it’s been delayed.

Gamestop has decided in the wake of the pandemic to shutter its physical locations and switch to processing only digital orders. Physical stores will be offering a curbside pickup service or other eCommerce deliveries. Gamestop will be paying employees for the eliminated hours for the next two weeks based on the past 10 weeks average hours.

More to pile on here, Diamond Comics Distributors, which if you didn’t know is the company that distributes new comics to retailers across the US has shut down. The company released a statement that said quote “As everyone knows, the world faces ever-increasing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Its effects on the comics & collectibles and tabletop gaming industries have been felt far and wide. We are hearing from thousands of retailers that they can no longer service their customers as they have in the past, many of them forced to close by government action or resort to in-person or curbside delivery. Even those still open are seeing reduced foot traffic in most cases, a situation that seems likely to worsen with time.

“Our publishing partners are also faced with numerous issues in their supply chain, working with creators, printers, and increasing uncertainty when it comes to the production and delivery of products for us to distribute. Our freight networks are feeling the strain and are already experiencing delays, while our distribution centers in New York, California, and Pennsylvania were all closed late last week. Our own home office in Maryland instituted a work from home policy, and experts say that we can expect further closures. Therefore, my only logical conclusion is to cease the distribution of new weekly products until there is greater clarity on the progress made toward stemming the spread of this disease.” Unquote

To put it succinctly. The company will not be sending any product with an on sale date of April, for the foreseeable future until the Covid 19 crisis is under control.

So here’s what I want you to do. Support your local comic book shop. Pick up your back issues! If you’re feeling generous, hand them fifty dollars to pay off someone else’s back order or ask for fifty in credit. Buy some Funko pops, games or anything else they have. Keep these stores in business! It’s up to you!

And that brings us to the end of the comic book news. *Show Ender*

Show Notes: Episode 66: Let The Child waffle about Picard & Episode 67:That Batmobile is not street legal

Tonight! The Why of Picard, The Child makes waffles and we remember the Man who brought Ming The Merciless to life! All that and more on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Welcome to Episode 66 of Multiverse tonight. I have some sad news to start this episode. I’ve had a death in the family. Our dog Fanny has passed away. She stopped eating and drinking a few days ago and then on Sunday she passed away. It hurts, but I know I’ll get over it. To quote George Carlin, “Life is a series of dogs.” unquote And Fanny was a very good dog.

Star Trek

So you’ve been watching Star Trek Picard, but you have concerns about the violence in darkness especially the recent scenes in the episode Stardust City rag where we saw poor Icheb getting unwanted surgery and Seven of Nine deciding to go all Dirty Harry on the person who killed her friend. Some fans have even taken their concerns to Showrunner Michael Chabon on his Instagram. His answer quote “I am not unambivalent about the violence, myself,” Chabon writes on Instagram. “The choice was not made lightly, though it was made collaboratively, and therefore with a good deal of conversation and debate among the creators. And so I assure you that it is not there simply ‘because we can,’ or because we are trying, as you somewhat uncharitably put it, to be ‘in.’ My partners would all have their own reasons for its presence in this story, as some of us had our own reasons for shying away from it. For me, it came down to this: there has always been violence (and even torture) in Star Trek. Sometimes that violence has been implicit, sometimes explicit, according to the dictates of censorship, the nature of the situation being depicted, the aesthetic of individual creators, or technical and/or budgetary limitations. And the reason that there has always been violence in Trek is that Trek is art, and there has always been violence—implicit and explicit—in art. It belongs there. It belongs in any narrative about human beings, even human beings of the future. Violence, often, *is* the narrative. Its source. Its engine. The question of whether it’s “too much” or not is ultimately a matter of taste. Personally, I come out closer to the “less is more” end. But that is just me. In the end, I saw how little time and space we had to convey a sense of Seven’s history post-Voyager, and the things that drive and haunt her. I decided, with my partners, that intensity was warranted. Seven lives outside the rationale confines of the Federation, because that is where she finds her sense of purpose. But life is hard, out there. If it wasn’t, people wouldn’t need her help so badly. And she wouldn’t have found such a compelling reason to carry on, in spite of her history of trauma. But, I hear you.” unquote

In other words, it was a necessary evil in order to tell the story

However Mister Chabon wasn’t finished, he also talked about the show’s tone and how it reflects our current reality. Quote “First of all, I think that the phrase (or a version of it) ‘Star Trek has always reflected its time” is open to multiple, potentially conflicting interpretations,’ he writes. “It can mean, ‘Individual Star Trek series have always (consciously) reflected thematically many of the most pressing issues of the time when they were made.’ I think that’s the sense intended by people involved with making the two current series, and it’s pretty obviously true—starting with persistent themes of nuclear annihilation, racial prejudice, mechanization, totalitarianism vs liberal democracy, on TOS, through DS9 with its themes of individual vs group identity, chosen family, reason vs faith, and the inevitable moral compromises of war. (That’s only the *conscious* ways in which Trek has reflected the times in which it was made.) But the phrase could also be taken the way (I think) you take it: that the world, the milieu depicted by Star Trek—the characters and their interactions, their capabilities and limitations as individuals, the social institutions and mores and technologies and economics and culture—reflects the world and era in which it was made. I think you’re saying that this is wrong, that here is exactly where Trek doesn’t, hasn’t. and *shouldn’t* reflect the world and times. That it has always presented its crews, Starfleet, and the Federation as improvements, as realizations of our best potential, as aspirational. If Trek has reflected our world, it’s in a kind of utopian funhouse mirror, where everything looks better. I would say that by and large that has been true, though possibly not as to the degree that many Trek fans claim, or feel. But there’s another side to the world—the people and society—depicted in Star Trek, which is all the characters, planets, cultures, mores and interactions that take place outside of Starfleet, the Federation. Many of these “outside” cultures and characters—the empires and alliances and unions— *have* deliberately reflected aspects of our world, with its all imperfection, intolerance, brutality, its humiliations and injustices, its evils. I don’t mean just in a thematic sense, but in the behavior of individual non-Federation, non-Starfleet characters, in the construction of societies around prejudices and inequalities, violence, lust for power, etc.

“That brings us to Picard. In the one, long, ten-part story we’re telling, we’re asking two questions about the greater world of Star Trek (i.e, the Federation *and* everything outside the Federation). One—a venerable Star Trek question, with a long pedigree in previous series and films: What happens when the Federation, the Roddenberry Federation with all its enlightened and noble intentions, free from want, disease, (internal) war, greed, capitalism, intolerance, etc., is tested by forces inimical to its values? What happens when two of its essential principles; (security and liberty, say) come into conflict? The answer has to be—at first, it buckles. It wobbles. It may, to some extent, compromise or even betray its values, or at the very least be sorely tempted to do so. If not, there’s no point asking the question, though it’s a question that any society with aspirations like ours or the Federation’s needs to ask. If nothing can ever truly test the Federation, if nothing can rock its perfection, then it’s just a magical land. It’s Lothlorien, in its enchanted bubble, untouchable by the Shadow. And, also, profoundly *inhuman*. To me it’s the humanity of the Federation—which means among many admirable things, its imperfection, its vulnerability and the constant need to defend it from our own worst natures—that makes it truly inspiring. The other, related question we’re asking is: What about the people who live outside, at the edges (or even within) the Federation but who, for various reasons, aren’t quite *of* it. Ex-Starfleet officers, refugees, people like Seven who served on a Starfleet ship but was never actually in Starfleet. People who have fallen through the cracks, or fallen victim to their own weaknesses. What is life like for people who, for whatever reason, live beyond the benevolent boundaries of the Federation—where, for example, post-scarcity is a dream, and there is a monetary economy? Again, there is precedent for this kind of story on Trek, but the fact that our story only resolves over ten episodes, not one, or two, or four out of a season of 23, might make it feel, sometimes, that there is more darkness, more trauma in our characters’ lives. More *struggle.* This show unquestionably has darker tonalities than some others (DS9 is the standout exception). It lives more in the shadows, where the Federation’s light can’t always reach. That isn’t to condemn, criticize, undo, break or, god knows, betray the Federation or Gene Roddenberry’s vision. Shadow defines light.

Every new Trek series since TNG has sought to escape what can feel like the confines of previous series, not simply of canon (which can also be a strangely liberating force) but of the kinds of stories, about the kinds of characters and societies, that have already been told. Each new series has expressed this impulse to “light out for the territories” in a different way. TNG went a century into the future of TOS. DS9 went onto a station full of aliens that was both beyond the edge of the Federation and next to a wormhole that led to the Gamma Quadrant. VOY put 70k light-years between it and its predecessors, and introduced a raft of new species and worlds. ENT went deep into the early past of the Federation. Next season’s DIS goes to the Trek universe’s far-future.

“The space we found for Picard is not ‘dark Federation.’ It’s one of people who live and work at or beyond the margins of the Federation who travel beyond its boundaries to find the truth.” unquote Well we can definitely say he’s a writer, that was a lot of words.

He also had more to say on Twitter when asked if  there was a connection between the state of the Federation in Picard and the state of the Federation in the 32nd century that Discovery season three will take place in. Mister Chabon replied quote “‘Federation downfall?’ What Federation downfall? The Federation is still very much alive and well and home to trillions (quadrillions?) of safe, housed, fed, educated citizens with the potential to lead fulfilling lives,” Chabon said. “There was a crisis 15 years ago, in the wake of the costly Dominion War and the Romulan emergency, which had a negative impact on the lives of many people, including most of our principal characters, in one way or another, during which Starfleet (and by extension the Federation) did not acquit itself well – in Picard’s eyes. From Admiral Clancy’s viewpoint, which is likely the mainstream view, Picard’s attitude was unrealistic, quixotic, and even dangerous. She may be right! They may both be right, and both wrong. But that was fifteen years ago, and the Federation is still going strong. Perhaps in the eyes of some it lost its luster, its air of invulnerability, its claim to the moral high ground, a process that began during DS9 times. That is hardly a ‘downfall’, though.” unquote

As to another fans question as to why Picard doesn’t make reference to the Dominion War in the show Chabon answered that he had planned to originally but was convinced not to by colleagues that doing so might confuse newer fans. Bad move Chabon, for one. Fans know about it. New fans will go back and watch DS9 to find out about it or they’ll find out about it from the internet. It’s all right to have continuity that not everyone has seen. People are adaptable. You’re kinda telling us that we’re not smart enough to do the homework. Again, bad move. Trust your audience.

Robert Picardo says that he’s in talks to appear in season two of Picard. He could either appear as the EMH creator Lewis Zimmerman, an EMH, or The Doctor. He’s quoted as saying “I am pleased that they (CBS) have expressed interest in me,” “They have reached out to my agent about next season. So I’m looking forward to seeing what it is. As you know I play two characters, primarily the Doctor but also Lewis Zimmerman. Lewis Zimmerman, the engineer who created the Doctor’s program, certainly would have aged. He’s in the same timeline as Patrick Stewart and all the [Star Trek: The Next Generation] folk. The Doctor, of course, like Data doesn’t age, but there are ways to address that, as we all know. I joked the other day that my daughter does visual effects, that’s exactly what she does is digitally correct actors so I said, ‘If they hire the two of us, she could make me look 25 years younger. Anyway, it will interesting to see when something happens, if something but, but I might have a chance to be onscreen with Jeri again. It would be an honor and a delight, obviously, to have scenes with Patrick Stewart so, you know, we’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

Star Trek Voyager is turning twenty five, so far we’ve seen Jeri Ryan return as seven of nine on Picard and  a group getting a monument erected in Captain Janeway’s hometown of Bloomington Illinois. Now 455 films is producing a documentary about the series. 455 films has previously done the Star Trek documentaries, the Captains, Chaos on the Bridge and For the Love of Spock. Studio president David Zappone hinted about what was coming on twitter saying quote  “Okay. Who likes Star Trek Voyager, and thinks it deserves to have a documentary to commemorate its 25th anniversary?” unquote He also confirmed that they will be filming during Star Trek : The Cruise IV filming testimonials from Voyager fans. The cruise this year has a Voyager theme and guests on the cruise include Kate Mulgrew, Jeri Ryan, Robert Picardo, Roxann Dawson, Ethan Phillips, Tim Russ, and Garrett Wang. No word on when the documentary will be out, but I’m guessing this fall.

So, have you ever been watching the classic episode The Trouble with Tribbles and wondered how long it would have taken to fill up the ship with the cooing balls of fur? No? Well someone has to answer questions like this. So a group of undergrads at the University of Leicester in the UK calculated the growth rate of the tribbles and published a paper on it. It was a relatively simple calculation involving an exponential formula. Spock gave the initial set of variables in teh episode estimates that each tribble (born pregnant) can give birth to ten more tribbles in 12 hours and puts the number of tribbles on board after just three days at 1,777,561. The students, assuming that Spock’s assessment was correct and presuming that no tribbles died. They came to the estimate that it would take 18.4 x10 to the 9th power and also estimated that it would take 18.4×109 tribbles to entirely fill the USS Enterprise. That’s 18 billion, 400 million tribbles. So under those conditions, they came to the conclusion that it would take 4.5 days for tribbles to completely fill the ship. That’s a lot of tribbles. Of course, in the episode the tribbles had been poisoned to death by contaminated quadrotriticale. In that case the authors proposed a further paper saying quote “A further calculation including a ‘death term’ could be done, to find out how long it would take for the population to become extinct, if there was an unlimited supply of toxic grain,” unquote

Some sad news. Star Trek Discovery actor Kenneth Mitchell, who has played three different Klingons in Discovery’s first two seasons: Kol, Kol-Sha and Tenavik has revealed that he has been diagnosed with ALS aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was originally diagnosed back in 2018. A few months ago in October, he was forced to use a wheelchair. In an interview with People magazine he said quote “The moment that they told us it was [ALS], it was like I was in my own movie,” “That’s what it felt like, like I was watching that scene where someone is being told that they have a terminal illness. It was just a complete disbelief, a shock.” “I’ll never forget, one of my Star Trek co stars told me, because they had dealt with some trying times with illnesses and stuff, and I remember them communicating to me, saying, ‘You have a choice. You can look at this in many different ways, but maybe try to look at this like a gift where you get to experience life in a way that most people don’t,” unquote However, he’s not going to try to be down about it, he told People that he and others are  looking into new roles with his diagnosis in mind.

Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo has a new baby daughter. Joonas and his wife Milla Pohjasvaara welcomed their second child on Friday the twenty eighth.  The man who took over the role of Chewy during the final movie in the sequel trilogy posted an announcement on Instagram with a caption on a photo of his daughter saying quote “We have some exciting news: we were blessed to welcome the newest member of our family!”“Our little princess (or senator, or general, or whatever she wants to be!) was born this week and is doing great. Unquote He went on to thank the hospital staff. And ended it with quote Welcome to the world Princess Bacca! Unquote He would later clarify that she has not been named yet and that Bacca is just a nickname. When her and her brother are older, maybe they should all go trick or treating as the Chewy family…or show up at Star Wars celebration in costume….or film an all new Star Wars holiday special….nah.

One of the complaints about the rise of skywalker was the feel of missing scenes. By the way, as an old timer, as someone who’s been around the block, the one thing I can tell you if you want different takes of scenes or missing scenes, check out the novelization of the comic adaptation. And sure enough, the novelization for The Rise of Skywalker has something that was missing when Ben Solo passed away. His last words. According to the book it goes like this quote  “A voice came to her through the Force, clear and strong. I will always be with you, Ben said, “She smiled. Let the truth of it wash over her. ‘No one’s ever really gone,’ she whispered.” unquote Bly the way, if you’re wondering if Ben’s force ghost “shows” up in the book? Nope. It’s been confirmed that there’s not a ghost of a chance of that. The novelization of Star Wars the rise of Skywalker comes out on March seventeenth The comic adaptation which sounds like it will have some added material as well, will come out this summer in June and the movie comes out on digital on that date and the disc versions hit shelves on March thirty first.

The Mandalorian will be premiering on ProSieben in Germany on MMarch 22nd prior to the launch of Disney Plus on March twenty fourth. The First episode will air as part of a Star Wars night on the broadcaster that ends with the German Free t premiere of The Last Jedi. However there is bad news for Amazon Fire users in germany as according to German tech News Site Heise Onlinen, Disney recently removed the Amazon media player from it’s supported device list. If that changes before launch I’ll let you know.

The Mandalorians Visual Production Supervisor for ILM Visual effects Ian Milham gave some behind the scenes explanations of how some of the scenes were brought to life. On twitter he wrote quote, For space fights, we populated the scene with lasers and explosions in different quadrants and distances, hooked them up to custom buttons on the iPad, and let the director go to town. Like playing X-Wing vs. TIE on a 70 ft screen. Season two of the Mandalorian comes out in October.

By the way there is now an official The Child Waffle Maker, although since it prints The child and The mandalorian logo on it, it looks more like a pancake than a waffle. A relatively flat waffle is always a pancake. If you want one they cost about 40 dollars and can be preordered from Gamestop. Gamestop, it’s still a thing.

Lucasfilm is preparing to launch new adventures in an old point in Star Wars history. Star Wars The High Republic takes place at the Galactic republic and Jedi Order’s high point some 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. Since this unexplored section of Galactic history is untapped the creators have free reign to make what they want. New adventures, new characters and new merchandising. In a statement Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain about this new venture said quote  “Star Wars: The High Republic features the Jedi as we’ve always wanted to see them — as true guardians of peace and justice. This is a hopeful, optimistic time, when the Jedi and the Galactic Republic are at their height. But of course, into this glorious new era something wicked this way comes,” says Lucasfilm publishing creative director Michael Siglain. “This initiative will give readers young and old a new corner of the galaxy to explore through rich, meaningful stories. Plus, readers will learn what scares the Jedi.”

The first books and comics are set to debut at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in August with Star Wars The high republic ight of the Jedi being a massive interconnected story that’s told across various formats by various publishers. Including Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray, Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland, Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures by Daniel José Older (IDW Publishing comic book series)Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures by Daniel José Older (IDW Publishing comic book series), Star Wars: The High Republic by Cavan Scott (Marvel comic book series) and Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule (Adult novel,

Syy has announced that the Magicians will be ending this April. THe show’s fifth season will be it’s last. The show, based on the series of novels by the same name, premiered back on Syfy in January of 2016 and has been one of the most consistent shows Syfy had on it’s schedule.  In a statement the channel said quote “‘The Magicians’ has been a part of our Syfy family for five fantastic seasons. As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever,”

SYFY is definitely on a streak now, they’ve also canceled the third annual Leprechaun St. Patrick’s Day Marathon. The past couple of years, the network has aired all the Leprechaun movies back to back, this year it will just show Leprechaun’s Revenge and Leprechaun Returns.  Well I guess you can always stream the rest.

Jason Blum would love to build himself a Frankenstien….movie. Talking with the Evolution of Horror Podcast the producer said quote “I’d love to do Frankenstein. I’ve tasked our filmmakers with trying to figure out just straight Frankenstein,“”Again, I don’t know if someone else is doing it, I don’t know anything about it, but I would love to try and I’m waiting for the great idea. The Invisible Man, I agree, the best ideas feel like, ‘My gosh, it’s so obvious, why didn’t that happen before?’ If we could come up with something as good for Frankenstein, I’d love to try that.” unquote

Octavia E. Butler’s novel Dawn will be made into a tv series for Amazon. The drama has been given a direct to series order will be written and directed by Victoria Mahoney who was the second unit director on The Rise of Skywalker, she will be teaming up with Ava DuVernay, the director of Disney’s big budget A Wrinkle in Time adaptation. The novel was published in 1987 and follows s

around an African American woman who works with aliens to resurrect the human race some 250 years after a nuclear war. There is no word on when it will be produced or aired.

The tenth season of American Horror Story will have Macculy Culkin joining the cast for the new story. Ryan Murphy shared the news of the casting with an instagram video of what resembled the opening credits to the tune of Orville Pecks’ Dead of Night. Season ten will premiere in the fall of 2020.

Stranger things Finn Wolfhard is set to star in the thriller movie Rules For Werewolves based on a short film of the same name that also started Finn. The film will be based on writer Kirk Lynn’s debut novel which he also adapted for the screen. Deadline reports that the film quote “investigates the rituals and rhythms of a pack of wild teens as they break in and loot a new home, leaving someone (or something) behind for the cops to find.” unquote/ It’s also being reported that the movie will be done in one single take, mostly.

Well we’re gonna have to wait to find out about the new shows coming out in the Fall 2020 season. Due to fears about the spreading CoVid 19 corona virus, a lot of upfronts have been either cancelled or postponed. Also the new James Bond film No Time To Die has been pushed back from April to November and Peter Rabbit 2 has been pushed back from April to August. I’m guessing we’ll have to learn about what will get quickly cancelled some other way.

Actor Max Von Sydow has passed away. The man born Carl Adolf von Sydow was born on April 10, 1929 in Lund Sweden He grew up to star in more than 100 films and tv shows, including eleven films by famed director Ingmar Bergman including The Seventh Seal which saw him playing a chess game with death. The voice of Vigo the Carpathian in Ghostbusters II, Judge Fargo in Judge Dread, Director Lamar Burgess in Minority Report and Lor Saan Tekka in Star Wars The Force Awakens and many many more.

Tonight! Lucifer’s sixth season might be reality, The Sandman becomes an audio drama and Etch A Sketch goes variants. All that and more on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Welcome to Episode 67 of Multiverse tonight. I’ve had quite a month. Got my tax refund, bought a second monitor for my studio, grieved over the loss of a favorite dog, now I have Planet Comicon in Kansas City in a week.  I don’t exactly know what I’ll get from Planet Comicon, some photos, definatly an interview with Author Dayton Ward, maybe an interview with an author or comic book person or two. We will see. This Con isn’t just a work thing for me, it’s really the only true vacation I get. Now if you’d like to see me go to more cons, you have to help fund me. Just go to my website Mutiversetonight.com.

DC

It looks like Lucifer might just get that sixth season. TV Line is reporting that Tom Ellis finalized a new deal for season six and a couple of weeks ago co showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have inked season six deals. Netflix is currently in talks with Warner Bros TV to bring about one more season of the show. The show was rescued by Netflix back in 2018 after three seasons on Fox. Come on Warner Bros, just one more time!

Nathan Fillion is well traveled. He’s been in lots of franchises. Firefly, Buffy, the MCU and animated green lantern,  etc. His upcoming appearance in the Suicide Squad will be new franchise. So why join the DC Universe easy. Two words quote “James Gun.” Nathan told ET Canada quote “James Gunn (is) one of the people in my life that when he calls I just pick up the phone and say ‘yes to whatever you’re about to say, it’s yes, the answer is yes,'” “James Gunn is an amazing storyteller, that guy understands story and he loves to tell story. So when he wants to do something you know it’s gonna be fun, you know it’s gonna be satisfying… So here he is with Suicide Squad 2, he asks me to come down. What can I say about it? It’s so secret, I get stressed when people talk about it. Here’s what I can tell you though, huge scope. I’ve never done anything so big.” unquote.

The movie is still filming, having wrapped the Panama part of its production and is scheduled for release August sixth 2021.

Also wrapped work on the movie is actor David Dastmalchian. That news came via James Guns instagram saying quote “And that’s a wrap on @dastmalchian who gave me this amazing art by @lukas.ketner as a wrap gift! I happened to be wearing my @countcrowley T-shirt (Dave and Lukas’s great comic series). Thanks David – you’ve been amazing to work with in every way. I can’t wait for people to see what we’ve cooked up. ❤️,” unquote

Police in Moscow towed a homemade Batmobile. The replica on the Batmobile from Batman v Superman. According to a Moscow interior ministry spokesman, the vehicle was too wide for the city streets and had not been certified as roadworthy. The vehicle and it’s 32 year old driver was stopped in Moscow on a Saturday in western Moscow and towed away wrapped in tape and black plastic.  The cost of the vehicle was about 842,100 american.

The Batman has moved along the past couple of weeks. A photo of a batsuit has leaked as well as a pic of the batmobile. Too say I’m just not impressed yet….eh.  Well now a new member has joined the cast, Gill Perez-Abraham is in another unknown role. Gil has appeared on Orange is the New Black and Pose and he will also be seen in The walking Dead’s NEW spinoff The Walking Dead World beyond. Yep. Dear Warner Bros, I need more info than that. And while we’re on it AMC? STOP IT WITH THE WALKING DEAD, we’re tired of it already.  Anyway.

FX’s Y The last Man is still around and it has a new Yorick Brown. Variety has learned that Ben Schnetzer will be taken over the role. Originally Barry Keoghan was slated to star in the show based on the DC Comics series of the asme name. But he left earlier this month. Mr. Schnetzer joins a cast that includes Diane Lane, Imogen Poots and Amber Tamblyn. The show will start production in April.

Statues of Batman and Wonder Woman have been erected in London’s Leicester Square. To commemorate the three hundred fiftieth anniversary of the London landmark, bronze statues commemorating various cinematic icons have been put in the area. Batman’s statue depicts him on a rooftop standing triumphantly as he looks down at the ground below. Wonder Woman showcases the warrior princess charging forward and busting through a wall. Leicester Square have become synonymous with the british film industry for years. Movies have premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square Cinema, the Prince Charles Cinema has become famous for screening various cult favorites. Other statues include Paddington Bear, Mr. Bean, Mary Poppins, Laurel and Hardy, Bugs Bunny and Don Lockwood from Singin’ in the Rain. The statues will stay there until June.

Jim Lee says Dan Didio is irreplaceable. During his panel at C2E2, by the way for coverage of that, head on over to Scifi4me dot com. Jason and his wife were there all weekend and have some interesting takes, so go check it out. Anyway, at the panel DC last publisher standing and Chief Creative officer Jim Lee indicated that Didio will not be replaced quote “There’s continually new things going on, and I look at being sole publisher now and the team I’m working with. Much more in trenches now than ever before.” “We’ve been with Warner Bros. for decades,” “The actual strategy for DC is to put publishing at center of what we do. It’s the engine of all the movies, TV, cartoons, we do. And so its my intent going forward as the Publisher, to lean into the collective years of my team.” unquote.

By the way, those who have been concerned about DC’s demise. Lee  said quote “To address some of the stuff that is out there, there’s rumors… speculation,” Lee explained. “I wouldn’t put any credence into it. DC has been around for 85 years, and we’ll be around for another 85 years. I hope to be doing this panel in 85 years.” unquote. Unless he’s a head in a jar, my guess is no.

DC’s The Sandman will be adapted into a multipart audio drama for Amazon’s Audible. The series will be narrated and executive produced by Sandman co creator Neil Gaiman and written and directed by Dirk Maggs. In a statement Neil said quote “Almost 30 years ago, Dirk Maggs approached DC about adapting The Sandman into audio form,” Gaiman said in a statement. “I’m glad it didn’t happen, because we are in a Golden Age of audio drama right now, and Dirk and I are much better at what we are doing. This is a rich audio adaptation of The Sandman graphic novels, brilliantly crafted by Dirk Maggs, with an all-star cast.” The audio drama is scheduled to come out this summer with plans for French, German, Italian and Spanish editions soon after.

Marvel

Production on any level is demanding. But it’s really demanding if you’re making an action packed series like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Star Anthony Mackie spoke with The Daily Beast about the demands on Marvel’s newest series and if there was any pressure. He told them quote . “Not at all. I feel like, if we’re going to fail, we should fail 100 percent. Don’t fail halfway,” Mackie said with a laugh. “But it’s been fun, man. There’s so much stuff going on in the Marvel Universe since Disney has gotten involved, and we have a really supportive team. It’s Victoria [Alonso] and Louis [D’Esposito] and Kevin [Feige] and all the other guys over there—we always have people we can talk to if we feel like stuff isn’t going right. So it’s been great. We’ve definitely stumbled a few times, but we’re running full steam ahead to get these shows done.” unquote The Falcon and The Winter Soldier comes to Disney Plus this August.

Speaking of the Disney Plus family of Marvel shows. Moon Knight is still a ways away…and it looks like it might be much later. According to Geeks WorldWide dot com, the filming date for the series has been pushed back to mid november at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. The lead has also not been casted yet for the role of Marc Spector, apparently they’re looking for a Zac Efron type.

Checking in with the She Hulk Show. Mark Ruffalo has confirmed that he’s in preliminary talks to appear in the show, which makes sense since Jennifer gets her powers because of a blood transfusion with her cousin. Marvel hasn’t cast She Hulk Jennifer Walters yet, but they are looking for an Alison Brie type. I don’t know maybe just hire Alison Brie?

Whoops. I’m guessing Vin Diesel wasn’t supposed to talk about this, but the actor in an interview to promote the Bloodshot movie, said quote “I am waiting and excited for my friend James Gunn to knock this next one out of the park,” Diesel said during an interview in promotion of his upcoming Bloodshot movie. “He took The Suicide Squad so he’s about to embark on it. Thor will also, the director talked to me about Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy.” “That’ll be very interesting, nobody knows, maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.” unquote Now, yes, the news isn’t too much of a surprise as Thor did leave Earth with the Guardians, the question becomes how much of the Guardians we will see as the story is supposed to surround Jane Fosters gaining the power of Thor. Thor Love and Thunder comes out on November fifth, 2021.

The latest issue of Production Weekly reports that Spider-man Three will shoot under the title Serenity Now. Which is apparently taken from the sitcom Seinfeld. Which is appropriate because Homecoming shot under the title Summer of George, while far from home shot under the title Fall of George. Co Producer Eric Hauserman Carroll has said that the pick code names that make them giggle. Production is set to get underway in July.

Tom Holland,on the press tour for Pixar’s Onward  has revealed to MT International that Sony had a contingency plan in case Sony and Marvel Studios did take Spiderman from the MCU quote “The future of Spider-Man was still very bright with Sony we had a really, really wonderful idea of how we could sort of transition into a Spider-Man without the MCU,” “Tom Rothman and Amy Pascal were really confident they were going to do justice and make a film that was the caliber that Spider-Man requires.” “But that said, I’m really glad to be back in the MCU and to have the team back together because I kind of feel that’s where he belongs now. I’m really grateful that Bob Iger and Tom Rothman allowed me to be a part of the process of bringing him home. It was a pretty cool experience and also the best bragging rights ever: I saved Spider-Man.” unquote Don’t give yourself a big head Tom. You won’t be able to fit in your Spider suit. Stay humble.

Black Panther was a huge success, not only was it a great movie, but it had a great soundtrack and a real chart topper thanks to the song Pray for Me by Kendrick Lamar and The Weekend. However, they’re in trouble now as TMZ reports that a lawsuit has been filed against Kendrick and The Weekend for an alleged eight count of illegal sampling in the track with quote intent to conceal the infringement”” unquote. The lawsuit was filed by Yeasayer which claims that the samples were taken from their 2007 song Sunrise. The band claims that Sunrise uses a distinctive choral performance that incorporate the bands own voices in a high falsetto. Yeasayer are asking for all the profits from Pray for me, Damages and an injunction blocking further sales and airplay of the song.

In a big announcement, Marvel Entertainment announced their creative team for a new comic series based on Tsuburaya Productions Ultraman.  Riters Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom will be co writers with Francesco Manna and Ed McGuinness on art. No launch date for the series has been given yet, but more info is due in the near future.

The Boys is coming back and it’s not the tv series, it’s the comic. It’s been eight years since the last issue and now Garth Ennis is teaming back with Russ Braun for The Boys: Dear Becky. CBR dot com asked Garth how getting back into the series has been. He said quote Terrific. I hadn’t quite realized what an appalling mood I was in about the state of the world until I began to write about it in this series, and of course, there’s no better character for me to write when I’m pissed off than Billy Butcher. He’s even better than Frank Castle, whose problem is that he doesn’t know how to enjoy life. Billy does. Unquote . By the way Garth has no involvement with the second season of the Amazon show except reading the scripts. The Boys: Dear Becky #1 from Dynamite Entertainment goes on Sale in April.

The Official Pokemon Youtube channel has released this years top ten Pokemon, according to Pokemon fans. This year’s top Pokemon went to Greninja, a water/dark type Pokemon that first appeared back in 2013 in Pokemon X and Y.

So, did you see the Sonic the Hedgehog movie? It looks like redoing the look of Sonic did the trick as it’s generally gotten good reviews. Now you might ask yourself, why was it just Sonic and Dr. robotnik? Why not say a character like Knuckles is a part of the movie? Comic book dot cm had an interview with director Jeff Fowler. He told them quote “For this first film, we really were just looking at the 1991 game and just see where it all started and just keep it simple,” “Just really try to nail Sonic and Robotnik and just set up their rivalry because you don’t … I mean, I love … There’s a lot of great characters in Sonic universe, but it’s the most important thing is just to get Sonic set up and just tell a little bit of an origin story with him, and just do it in a way that really makes everyone fall in love with him as a character and just be rooting for more. And then, if all that goes well, then we can kind of open it up and bring in some of these other characters that fans know and love. And yeah, I mean, no one’s more excited than me to have that opportunity.” unquote Which you gotta admit, it’s the right approach. Knuckles or Tails can always show up in the sequel.

Monopoly has done well with it’s umpteen different versions of Monopoly, so I guess it’s etch a skech’s time At New York Toy Fair 2020, Spin Master announced a series of limited edition etch sketches to celebrate the drawing toys sixtieth anniversary. The six issue series titles You Look Like Death will focus on Seance aka Klaus and will be written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon with art by INJ Culbard. Garbriel Ba will draw covers. With his allowance discontinued by Hargreeves, he takes to a place where his ghoulish talents will be appreciated––Hollywood. After a magical high on a vampire-drug-lord’s stash, Klaus needs help, and doesn’t have his siblings there to save him.” unquote In a statement Gerard Way said quote”For a long time, I had wanted to tell the story of Klaus Hargreeves’ life after the Umbrella Academy disbanded and before the events of Apocalypse Suite,” Way said in a statement. “I imagined a pretty wild decade for Klaus– full of ups and downs, seedy places, supernatural excursions, and internal battles within himself. I am thrilled to finally be able to tell this story with my co-writer Shaun Simon, who sees the world of the UA as clearly as I do. Also thrilled to work with such an amazing art and lettering team in I.N.J. Culbard and Nate Piekos.” unquote

Keywords: Star Trek , Star Wars, Picard, Liam Neeson, The Orville,Harrison Ford, The Mandalorian, Sasha Banks, Boba Fett, Kansas City Chiefs, Pete Buttigieg,  Evan Evagora, Michael Chabon,Jeri Ryan, Rick Moranis, The 100, Stargate, Indiana Jones, The Goonies, Chris Evans,

Tonight! Liam Neeson is done with Star Wars and Batman, we learn more about Picard’s hired assassin and Chris Evans wants to cause someone pain! All that and more on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Welcome to Episode 64 of Multiverse tonight.

So we’re at the halfway point on Star Trek Picard, what have you thought of it so far? I’ve enjoyed it so far but, last week’s episode was kinda dark. You had the deaths of a recurring Voyager character and a Next Gen guest star. I wonder when we run across Riker and Deanna Riker? I was kind of expecting that they’d show up during Jonathan Frakes run of directing episodes, but so far nothing. I’m also curious as to what will be the follow up show after this season is done. I’m hoping for Lower Decks. I think that would be a good palate cleanser, something lite and funny.

A little Orville news to report. Producer Tom Costantino showed an all new much larger orchestra recording a new arrangement of the theme song. I can’t wait to hear it.

Star Wars

Han Solo died in The Force Awakens only to reappear as a force ghost in The Rise of Skywalker, so I guess the question is why? Harrison Ford, talking with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live. As to Han’s death he said quote “I figured that his utility had been exhausted, bled out, and was … well, I was willing to die for the cause. Bring some gravitas,” unquote. As far as Han’s appearance in the rise of Skywalker quote “No good deed goes unpunished.””J.J. said, ‘This is a good idea. I, J.J., have decided that this is a good idea and I would like you to do it,” unquote When Kimmel pushed if he trusted JJ Abrams Ford quipped quote “Don’t you?” unquote

By the way, don’t ask Harrison about details. When a reporter for USA Today asked if his return in The Rise of Skywalker was because he was a force ghost or just a figment of Ben Solo’s imagination the actor replied quote “A Force ghost? I don’t know what a Force ghost is,”

“Don’t tell anyone,” “I’m not talking loud enough for your recorder. I have no (expletive) idea what a Force ghost is. And I don’t care!” unquote. Keep in mind he only works in outer space…

The Mandalorian will have someone new to play with in season 2, According to the Mat Men Wrestling Podcast, WWE Superstar Sasha Banks will be appearing in the show.  Could she be in charge of something? After all her wrestling nickname is The Boss.

Disney Plus will soon be coming to the rest of the world, but even though The Mandalorian season one is all out in the US, doesn’t mean that everyone else won’t have to wait as well.

Disney Plus’ UK twitter account has released the news that , like the US release, each episode will be doled out one at a time. Disney Plus and The Mandalorian will debut in the UK on March twenty fourth.

Liam Neeson is out of the Star Wars and Batman phase of his career. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight the actor who has been QuiGon Jinn and Ra’s Al Ghul says he has no interest in returning to either. Quote “I’ll be honest with you, no. It’s not. I’m really not a huge fan of the genre. I think it’s Hollywood with all the bells and whistles and the technical achievements and stuff — which I admire — but I have no desire to go into the gym for three hours every day to pump myself up to squeeze into a Velcro suit with a cape,” “I admire the actors and I know some of the actors who do it — and do it fantastically. It’s just not my genre, it really isn’t. The first Star Wars, I was in that, that was 22 years ago, and I enjoyed that, because it was novel and that was new. I was acting to tennis balls, which were ultimately going to be little fuzzy furry creatures and stuff. That was interesting, acting-wise, to try and make that seem real, but that was the last. It’s quite exhausting.” unquote Kinda sounds like he just doesn’t wanna go back to the gym again.

The Fett Man is back. Boba Fett is back in Star Wars Bounty Hunters number one.  The new comic from Marvel Comics from writer Ethan sacks and artist Paolo Villanelli. Here’s the blurb quote NEVER BETRAY A BOUNTY HUNTER – ESPECIALLY IF IT’S BOBA FETT! Years ago, VALANCE and fellow bounty hunters BOSSK and BOBA FETT took on a mission that went sideways in a bad way after Valance’s mentor, NAKANO LASH, violently betrayed them. Valance’s team barely escaped with their lives. He never thought he’d face his old mentor ever again…until Lash finally resurfaces under mysterious circumstances. Every bounty hunter in the galaxy wants a piece and Valance is hell-bent on getting to the prize first. He has a score to settle—but so does Boba Fett!

ETHAN SACKS (OLD MAN HAWKEYE and GALAXY’S EDGE) and PAOLO VILLANELLI (VADER: DARK VISIONS and JEDI FALLEN ORDER – DARK TEMPLE) are teaming up to bring you the bounty hunter adventure you’ve been waiting for this March! Star Wars Bounty Hunters number one is due out March fourth.

So you love the Mandalorian and the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, what do you do? Get a tattoo celebrating both of course. A fan decided to get inked following the win. The tattoo features Coach Andy Reid in the Mandalorian armor and MVP Patrick Mahomes as the Child. https://twitter.com/thecheckdown/status/1229842434172964864/photo/1

Me personally I’d never get a tatoo but to each thier own.

Star Trek

Democratic Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg is a confirmed trekkie. Speaking with Fox News the candidate spoke of his love of Star Trek Picard. “I finally figured out how to do the app so that I can watch Star Trek: Picard,” Buttigieg revealed on Fox News. “I’m a huge Star Trek fan so I’m really excited to see where it goes. I grew up on The Next Generation. I was all about that.” https://twitter.com/i/status/1230120511348322307

And I’m all about free and fair elections. So get out there and vote!

The newest recruit on Star Trek Picard’s mission is the Romulan sword fighter Elnor played by Evan Evagora. The Australian actor, who is also in the new Fantasy Island movie, spoke with comic book dot com about finding Elnor’s character and his relationship with Jean-Luc Picard. On how much he had to train to be good with those swords he said quote I have no background in sword fight training whatsoever. I do have a very heavy boxing background, which can be used during fight scenes and stuff. It was pretty much the day I landed in LA, I got a phone call asking me if I could come down to the studio. So I came down to the studio. I met the stunt team. I met my amazing stunt double. Anytime you see Elnor running along walls, or running up and then flipping off stuff, that’s him. He can just do it way better than I can, and he makes me look amazing.

In terms of the sword fighting, I went to the studio and I was given my prop sword, and we began going through sword fighting sequences and scenes from the show to start practicing. So the majority of the stuff that you see, I’m doing, in terms of fighting and swordplay. Unquote  On if he considers Elnor to be an outsider type character like Spock or Data, he told them quote Yeah, I’d say he does. Every version of Star Trek has that character who’s trying to understand the world and is looking at everything with a fresh face. And I think Elnor continues that. Unquote

As to what will be coming up for Elnor in the rest of the season, Evan was evasive, but he did tell them quote I don’t really want to give much away, but I will say there’s some nice moments between Seven of Nine and Elnor. I don’t really want to give too much away, because it would just spoil the story, and there’s some really great moments. But that really sticks out in my memory. I have some really good scenes with Michelle Hurd, as well as Patrick. Really it’s been a great ensemble cast, and I think we all work well off of each other. And I think you’ll see how all of our stories interconnect and intertwine, and how we each deal with the similar trauma we’ve experienced, but how it’s affected each one differently. Unquote

Picard showrunner Michael Chabon is busy answering fans’ questions. One response he had was to why all the swearing? His answer quote “Listen. No human society will be perfect, because no human will ever be perfect,” Chabon says. “The most we can do — and as Star Trek ever reminds us, must do — is aspire to perfection, and work to make it so. Norkon forden perfectunun, as a wise Yang once said. Until that impossible day, s–t is going to continue to happen. And when it does, humans are going to want to swear.

“The absence of swear words in Star Trek was never a matter of Federation principle, it was a matter of FCC rules. Writers of previous eras had no choice. They were censored. Searing is one of humanity’s most ancient, sensible, and reliable consolations. Personally I would consider any society that discouraged, banned or abandoned the use of curse words to be a f—ing dystopia.” unquote  In other words, the swear words were always there, they just couldn’t get passed the censors. I think it’s okay, but they should make a censored version for family viewing.

And what’s up what Commodore Oh and the sunglasses, when a true Vulcan have second eyelids that would handle the bright sun?  His response was that he’s well aware that a Vulcan wouldn’t need sunglasses and suggested that its a hint. What does this accoutrement tell us about Commodore Oh. HINT HINT. Let’s just put it this way, if something seems off, maybe you should log that away for later in the story.

Is Rebecca Romijn’s Number One coming back for an encore? The actress in a recent interview where she was launching her own line of jewelry spoke to fashion site The Daily Front Row. Told them quote “I’ve also been working on Star Trek here and there, but I can’t really talk about that,” unquote She can’t talk about it? Isn’t all her Star Trek stuff out? Or is there something that hasn’t been released. Are we making too much about her choice of words?  Probably. If anything does develop, I’ll let you know.

Jeri Ryan’s seven of nine finally appeared in the fourth episode of Picard. However it wasn’t easy for Jeri to find Seven’s voice again. The Hollywood reporter spoke with the actress before the season began. When asked about what the biggest change she had experienced with the new show she said quote “The scale of the show. The scale of these sets, the costumes, it’s crazy. It’s like you’re doing a feature film every week.unquote She was also surprised by the technical set design quote

“In one of my scenes, where I had to go in and work a console, we go in for the first rehearsal and I had to touch buttons and the screen actually does something! And I totally flipped out, like: ‘Oh my god, actually having buttons that work!” unquote

She also talked about her first day working with Sir Patrick Stewart on the set quote “My first scene, the big scene, was the one you see in the trailer, when we’re in his office/ready room. That was my first day on set. It was daunting — not just because it was Patrick — but because I was still petrified — or ‘Patrick-fied’ — of if I could find the character again. I was still trying to figure out who she was.” unquote. However she did have backup in finding her character thanks to Jonathan Frakes quote “I was so fortunate because Jonathan Frakes was directing my first episode. So with that, I knew I was in good hands. [Frakes], more than anyone else, would get the importance of revisiting and being true to these characters. Because the challenge for me is: Where has she been for nearly 20 years? Finding her voice was the hardest thing for me; when I read the first script — I just couldn’t hear her voice anywhere.”

Ryan went on to recall that it took her the first couple of takes before she felt like she “found Seven,” but once she did, “Frakes just sort of walked in and said ‘there she is.’” unquote

Her return was excellent and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. This is good.

Well here’s a pleasant surprise. Rick Moranis is returning to acting after a 23 year hiatus to raise his children after the death of his wife. He will be back in a new sequel to Honey I shrunk the kids titled Shrunk. The new movie will star Josh Gad as Rick Moranis son Wayne Szalinkski and be directed by Joe Johnston who also directed the original movie back in 1989. Rick has not appeared in a live action film since 1994’s Little Giants.

The prequel series to The CW’s The 100 has started casting. According to Deadline, Iola Evans from Amazon’s Carnival Row, Adain Bradley from the CW’s Riverdale and Leo Howard of Why Women Kill have been cast in a backdoor pilot for the yet to be titled prequel. The backdoor pilot episode will air sometime during the seventh and final season of the show.

The Stargate franchise has been quiet since 2011. MGM tried to gauge interest in a new series a couple of years ago with a prequel webseries, but it apparently didn’t do enough to convince the studio to go ahead with anything new.. Comic Book dot com checked in with creator Roland Emmerich to see where things are with anything new. Emmerich said quote”Yeah, I kind of talked a little bit with MGM about Stargate,” Emmerich said in an interview. “But I think this is going nowhere because there was another TV show, and they kind of realized that if it’s like some sort of a mixed bag.” unquote   It seems to me that if Stargate fans want to see a new series, they’d better show up or it’ll be a long time before anything new is seen.

The fifth Indiana Jones movie will start filming in just a few months according to Harrison Ford. The actor, in an interview with Ellen said that it would start sometime this summer or late summer. Seemingly implying that it would be around July or August. The movie was originally scheduled to be out this May but has been pushed back all the way to July tenth of next year. Let’s just hope it’s better than the Crystal Skull.

Goonies never say die. Well it looks like Fox Television has begun development on a sorn of Goonies reboot. The show is about a troubled teacher who attempts to make a shot for shot remake of the cult film with three students. Here’s the description quote “After failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret with her, Stella Cooper returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of their favorite movies — The Goonies. Over the course of the season of the potential series, their passion will inspire a town in desperate need of hope in this love letter to the power of cinema, storytelling and dreams.” unquote Don’t hold your breath though, This project is untitled and just in the project stage.

HBO’s  sci fi comedy Avenue 5 has been renewed for season two. The show starring Josh Gad and Hugh Laurie trapped on a space liner with horrible people seems to have gotten over with a lot of people. I’ve been enjoying it.

The Hollywood reporter has broken the news that Chris evans is currently in negotiatons to play dentist Orin Scrivello in Greg Berlanti’s reboot of Little Shop of Horors. Warner Bros is making the movie and other possible actors up for roles include Scarlett Johansson and taron Egerton. No possible release date is known.

This story is both sad and a little strange,  Veteran stuntwoman Cheryl Sanders who has performed in Back to the Future Part II, VI Warshawski, The Thomas Crown Affair and the Lethal Weapon series was killed in a shootout outside a million dollar home in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Fox 6 News in Ohio reports that Cheryl Sande and her husband were shot and killed after they allegedly threatened her ex husband Robert Duncan and his wife in their driveway.Officers responded to the shooting on February thirteenth in Miami Township Ohio and found the couple dead outside her ex’s house. Sanders and her husband don’t live in Ohio, they live in North Carolina according to the county attorney.

Sanders ex told the police that Cheryl pulled up in a car, got out and went towards Duncan’s wife Molly. According to Sheriff Gene Fisher, Cheryl Sanders was quote “threatening to kill the guy’s wife and (Robert Duncan) fired upon that person,” Both Robert and Cheryl Sanders died from multiple gunshots. Apparently this was not the first time Cherl Sanders had attempted this. Apparently this had been a long planned murder attempt as there was a survailance camera  put on the the house that broadcast to a cellphone found in the couples car and Robert Sanders had multiple form of id on him.

The investigation is still continuing.

Tonight! Birds of Prey disappoints, Bob Iger thinks he’s owed a beer and Kevin Smith masters an all star cast of the Universe, all that and more on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Greetings and welcome to episode 65 of Multiverse Tonight! Well. What do you know. I know one thing. Rumors are just that rumors. I’ve been seeing rumors online that Dan Didio’s exit from DC Comics is some sort of precurreser to AT&T selling off DC Comics or stopping production of comics, ecetera. You need to look at this with a critical eye. One. no reliable sources. The site that has this story doesn’t name where this info is coming from. 2. No cooberation. No other site is reporting this news. If something like that was happening other news sites and more repetable sites would have the story. In other words, don’t believe it until it happens or it gets better coverage.

DC

Patty Jenkins thinks of Steve Trevor like an Indiana Jones type of character in Wonder Woman 1984.quote  “He’s not beta at all. He’s a super alpha who can absolutely wear his discomfort on his sleeve,”. “So, from day one, I was always saying that it should almost be like Wonder Woman meets Indiana Jones, where Indiana would never be emasculated. Chris just very naturally has that quality. You can tell by meeting him that he’s warm and he’s chill and he truly appreciates women.”  unquote

So what does Pine think of his character’s journey in the movie Speaking with Entertainment Weekly he said quote “In the first movie, I played the world-weary soldier who has seen all the depravity that humankind is capable of displaying,” “And in this one I get to be much more wide-eyed and joyful. My role is really just as a friend, lover, boyfriend-cum-bodyguard who’s trying his best to help Diana on her mission. I’m like the Watson to her Holmes.” unquote

Entertainment Weekly also spoke with Kristen Wiig about her transformation into the role of Cheetah quote “I did not really know so much about Cheetah,” “Before I even talked to Patty [Jenkins], there was an idea that maybe it might be about being a villain for the movie, so I went online and looked at all the villains of Wonder Woman to try to figure out which one, because I was so excited. And I was really, really happy to find out it was her.” “I’ve never really played someone who walks into the room and owns it — especially when she starts out so insecure and self-deprecating,” Wiig said. “We didn’t want to see Barbara in Cheetah, and I didn’t want to see Kristen in Cheetah, either.” unquote Wonder Woman 1984 opens on June fifth.

Birds of Prey had a disappointing first weekend, so what did Warner Bros do? Retitled the film, Worked for Edge of Tomorrow didn’t it.? Birds of Prey And the Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is now Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. not a bad idea. Speaking to the Verge, a representative for the studio said that the title change was to help search expansion for ticket sites. Which sounds a lot like people weren’t searching for Birds of Prey, they were searching for Harley Quinn. I wonder if you call a movie Birds of Prey, maybe push the Birds of Prey and not Harley Quinn? I mean if Harley is the entire plot of the movie, call it Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey.

The good news is the film has made back it’s money. Let’s see how it did in the box office report

BOX OFFICE REPORT

DC Universe’s Doom Patrol will be getting a little larger next season. Actress Abigail Shapiro is joining up as The Chief Niles Caulder’s daughter Dorthy and NCIS New Orleans’ Karen Obilom is coming as Roni Evers, a military vet with a mysterious past who meets Cyborg Vic Stone in a PTSD support group.

Longtime Co-Publisher of DC Comics Dan DiDio is out at DC Comics.  Dan is best known for Infinite Crisis, The new 52, DC Rebirth and Doomsday Clock. Dan has been co-publisher for the past10 years. This seems to leave Co-Publisher Jim Lee in the driverseat as sole publisher and Chief Creative Officer. DiDio’s exit comes just prior to an announced new relaunch that would further dismantle  parts of the 2011 reboot. It is unclear at this time if that relaunch will be delayed or canceled.

The Supergirl comic will end with issue number forty two in May. The issue will be written by Jody Houser with art by Rachel Stott and will pit Supergirl against the US Military. There are currently no plans for a new series.

Some early images of Robert Pattinson’s Batsuit have come out, but meanwhile those faithful who still want the Snyder cut have launched a renewed campaign for the Holy Grail of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. The social media profiles for WarnerMedia owned companies are getting comment bombed. For example, the HBO Max instagram page has hundreds if not thousands of demands that HBO Max stream the cut of the movie.  By the way, there is still no verification if such a cut ACTUALLY exists. So they might just be yelling into the void.

Lucifer’s fifth season has been scheduled as it’s last but could it get a sixth? According to TVLine dot com, Netflix is currently in talks with Warner Bros Television to make a new final season. Season five is currently in its final weeks of production on it’s final sixteen episodes. Neither Netflix nor Warner Bros has acknowledged or denied the report.

Marvel

Avengers Endgame not winning an Oscar was kind of a disappointment. Well it’s not winning that makes history or infamy take your pick. Avengers Endgames shut out at the Oscars marks the first time that a film has become the highest grossing movie of all time but didn’t win an oscar. Endgame made nearly 2.8 billion dollars worldwide .

The United Kingdom has some new heroes. Marvel is introducing a brand new team called The Union in the Empyre crossover event with the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. The tagline for the event is quote Thanos is dead-so who is the biggest power in the Universe? Unquote  The Union is written by Paul Grist and has art by Andrea Di Vito and cis out now.

Michael Pena is unsure about  the fate of his Marvel Antman sidekick character Luis. The Hollywood reporter talked with Pena on the press junket for his new movie Fantasy Island and they asked if he ever found out, he said quote “I have no idea. Ant-Man 3 is not going to be shot for another year or so. After my involvement in the first two Ant-Man movies, we really won’t even know what’s going to happen until one to two months before we film,” explained Peña. “I have no idea what’s happening to be honest. Right now, Marvel is in a really cool position where they can break hearts by who they bring back and who they don’t. But, I’m still interested even though I have no idea what’s gonna happen, and I can’t wait to find out.” unquote However he is hopeful that he will be returning to the MCU Speaking with coming soon dot com he said quote  “For the last one, I didn’t really know what capacity I was going to come back in or if I was going to come back,” Peña previously said to ComingSoon. “I think they’re a year away from filming, I think it would be great if I could do a third one. But you never know, especially with all the stuff that happened in Endgame. Right now, Marvel’s in a situation where they can crush some expectations, they’re gonna have to crush some expectations of other characters, not just mine, so hopefully I make the cut.” unquote

Well I think it would be tragic to do a third ant man film and not have the series hype man. He’s one of a kind.

So last summer, the big story was the Spider-man fight followed by the ambassadorial effort of  Spider-man tom Holland that resulted in a peace treaty between Sony and Disney. Now Disney CEO Bob Iger thinks Tom Holland owes him a little something cool and refreshing. Mister Iger wrote on Twitter quote “Last night’s premiere of @Pixar latest film, #Onward, gave me a chance to see @MarvelStudios friends–#ChrisPratt and #TomHolland! Tom owes me a “pint” for saving @SpiderMan!”

Unquote Actually that’s not a bad idea. Maybe they should invite Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra and make it a beer summit, maybe iron some more of these Marvel rights out. Make it a huge shared universe? Whata say?

So have you ever watched the Marvel movies and that quick succession of comic book pages and wondered about the kissing couple that can be seen around the 6 second mark in the sequence? Well a fan on Quora has figured out who they are. Deverick Jenkins has figured out that they are Angelica Jones aka Firestar and Vance Astrovik aka Justice. You know what’s interesting about those two, They are mutants. Technically making them the first Mutants in a Marvel Studios film. Kinda neat. Now if Marvel Studios would just get down to using those mutants…

According to a new report from Illuminerdi, Sony is interested in Michelle MacLaren to direct the Spider-man movie. MacLaren is best known for working on shows like Game of Thrones, Better call Saul and Breaking Bad and if chosen this would be her first feature film. The same report also says that they are looking into Alicia Vikander for the lead role of Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman. When more is announced, I’ll let you know.

Well Avengers Endgame might have not gotten an Oscars, but they’re bound to get a blimp from the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Endgame walked out with eleven nominations. Also up for awards are A Series of unfortunate Events, Power ranger Beast Morphers, Stranger Things, The Flash, The Simpsons, Captain Marvel, Spider-man Far From HOme, Star Wars the Rise of SkywalkerFrozen 2, the Lego Movie 2, The Lion King, Secret Life of Pets 2, Toy Story 4 and many many more. The awards will be slimed out on March 22nd on Nickelodeon.

So he tasked his writer’s room quote “We went in with this mantra of, like, nobody is winking and nobody’s acting like this is weirdness,” Smith said. “ManAtArms, Stinkor, or no, it’s all played incredibly Game of Thrones-straight.” “If you like the style of Castlevania, just put HeMan through that filter, and it has that feel and look to it,” “It’s anime style.”

No released date for Masters of the Universe Revelation won’t air until 2021.

If the report from DisInsider is true, Disney is working on another live action version of another animated movie. This time it will be Rupunzel, which was animated in the Tangled movie a decade ago. Michael De Luca and Kristen Burr are reportedly executive producing it with Zoe Kent, Jessica Virtue and Lucy Kitada. No director has been announced.

According to Variety, Disney is working on a sequel to it’s live action Aladdin movie. The sequel is expected to be a theatrical release like the first one and will be a completely new idea and not based on the direct to video animated sequels The return of Jafar and Aladdin and the king of thieves. Right now it’s unclear if Guy Ritchie will return to direct but the films starts are all expected to return, but nothing is in place yet.  Comic book dot com can confirm that John Gatis and Andre Berloff will be writing the script.

Todd McFarlane has announced a Kickstarter campaign at the 2020 Toy Fair. This Kickstarter will recreate the original line of Spawn toys that were made with the Todd toys logo, all released with classic packaging but with the modern sensibilities and techniques that mcFarlane toys have become known for. Todd McFarlane said quote I’m going to start with him (points to original Spawn) and hopefully we’ll end up getting to all six of these, but we’re going to take that original Spawn and we’re going to do it and put it into a retro packaging, but we’re going to use a modern-day sculpt of it.” The Kickstarter isn’t live yet, but will be under the Masterworks category on Kickstarter. I like a good Kickstarter, I give to the Rifftrax kickstarter every year.

Blurbs have been released for the new Simon & Schuster Star Trek novels. First off in June is Dayton Ward’s Agents of Influence, an Original Series novel. Here’ the blurb quote For years, Starfleet Intelligence agents have carried out undercover assignments deep within the Klingon Empire. Surgically altered and rigorously trained in Klingon culture, they operate in plain sight and without any direct support, while collecting information and infiltrating the highest levels of imperial power. Their actions have given Starfleet valuable insight into the inner workings of the Klingon government and its relentless military apparatus.

After three of Starfleet’s longest serving agents fear exposure, they initiate emergency extraction procedures. Their planned rendezvous with the USS Endeavour goes awry, threatening to reveal their activities and the damaging intelligence they’ve collected during their mission. Tasked by Starfleet to salvage the botched rescue attempt, Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise must discover the truth behind a secret weapons experiment while avoiding an interstellar incident with the potential to ignite a new war between the Federation and one of its oldest adversaries. Unquote

Next up is John Jackson Miller’s Discovery novel Die Standing coming out in July quoteNo one in the history of histories has lost more than Philippa Georgiou, ruler of the Terran Empire. Forced to take refuge in the Federation’s universe, she bides her time until Section 31, a rogue spy force within Starfleet, offers her a chance to work as their agent. She has no intention of serving under anyone else, of course; her only interest is escape.

But when a young Trill, Emony Dax, discovers a powerful interstellar menace, Georgiou recognizes it as a superweapon that escaped her grasp in her own universe. Escorted by a team sent by an untrusting Federation to watch over her, the emperor journeys to a region forbidden to travelers. But will what she finds there end the threat—or give “Agent Georgiou” the means to create her old empire anew? Unquote

August brings us a new Kelvin Timeline book, More Beautiful Than Death from David Mack quote Captain James T. Kirk and the Enterprise crew escort Spock’s father, Ambassador Sarek of Vulcan, to a dilithium-rich planet called Akiron. They arrive to find this world under siege by creatures that some of the planet’s denizens believe are demons. Sarek orders Kirk to abandon the mission, but the young captain won’t turn his back on people in danger. After a harrowing encounter with the dark-energy “demons,” Kirk’s belief in a rational universe is challenged by a mystic who insists that it wasn’t coincidence that brought Kirk to Akiron, but the alien equivalent of a Karmic debt.

Meanwhile, aboard the Enterprise, Sarek’s young Vulcan aide L’Nel has a sinister agenda—and its chief objective appears to be the cold-blooded murder of Spock! Unquote

In October, we have Kirsten Beyer’s next Voyager novel, To Lose the Earth, this book has been delayed because of her other work on Discovery and Picard, here’s the blurb quote As the crew of the Full Circle fleet works to determine the fate of their lost ship, the Galen, a struggle for survival begins at the far edge of the galaxy. New revelations about Species 001, the race that built the biodomes that first drew the fleet to investigate planet DK-1116, force Admiral Kathryn Janeway to risk everything to learn the truth.unquote

Well happy reading or in my case listening, I don’t have much time to actually read.

We close out Star trek news with the passing of actress Marj Dusay at the age of 83. She would be best known to Star Trek fans for her guest appearance on the Spock’s Brain episode in the third season.

His first major role was as Roland Weary in 1972’s film adaptation of Slaughterhouse five, he would go on to play such memorable movie roles as Crum Petree the crazy mailman from the Chevy Chase movie Funny Farm, Frank Papale in Disney’s Invincible and Sgt. Star wars

Star Wars actor Jake Lloyd has had many struggles with mental health. The actor best known for his role Anakin Skywalker i nThe Phantom Menace. And has had many struggles including run in with the law and the unexpected passing of his younger sister a couple of years ago.

In a statement with Geek News Now, Jake’s mother talked about her son’s present state quote “We would like to thank everyone for their kind words, their support, and goodwill,” the statement reads. “Jake has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but unfortunately he also has a symptom called anosognosia which causes a lack of insight into his illness. This only adds to the struggle he faces, which has been very difficult after the tragic loss of his younger sister, Madison. He has moved closer to his family and we are all working hard to help him with this. He is still a kind and caring person and we hope to have him back to his fun and entertaining self as soon as possible. Jake will continue to make progress with the love and support you continue to show.” unquote  My heart goes out to him. I wish him peace and long life.

The Mandalorian second season comes to Disney Plus this October. In the First quarter earnings call CEO Bob Iger , The show has been very successful for Disney with 65 percent of viewers of the show going on to try at least ten other offerings on the streamer.

Mark Hamill got a surprise last month. An Arizona bookstore tweeted the actor saying that it had found his original copy of the Star Wars soundtrack and wanted to send it back to him.. How did they know it was his, the record sleeve was personally inscribed by John Williams to Mark. In an interview with the New York Times on Monday Mark said quote I wasn’t completely sure that it was mine,“”But I know that I’d had an album signed by John. How would they know that?” Mark didn’t even know that it was missing and had assumed it was still in the basement of his California home with the rest of his record collection.  How it got to Bookmans Entertainment Exchange in Flagstaff, Arizona, who can say. All the store knows is that it showed up in a collection a lady brought in from her deceased father’s collection. The record had even been temporarily [but on sale before it was taken down, it was posted on twitter soon there after where Mr. Hamill saw it. Within days, it was in the mail back to it’s Jedi owner.Mark said quote “This is so above and beyond, considering they could’ve sold it.” Unquote Mark made his grattitude clear encouraging his twitter fans to visit the store and he signed some memorabilia for the store incudingg a Star wars DVD and a replica of the medal given to Luke and Han at the end of A New Hope.

The Star Wars A Galaxy Far far Away Show at Disney’s hollywood studios is closing. The show , which featured classic moments from the Skywalker Saga brought to live on stage will be closing soon, however there apparently is no set end date. However there are rumors that the show will close a week after the scheduled opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway on March fourth I’m guessing it’s no longer needed with Galaxy’s Edge.

Taika Waititi is downplaying the rumors that he was offered a Star wars film. When asked about it by entertainment weekly, the Oscar award winning director slash actor said quote “Listen, what does ‘approached’ even mean?” “I’ve seen Star Wars, that’s about as far as it got.” Pushed on the subject further he said quote  “Look, I’m not an idiot,” “Who would actually say no to Star Wars? Of course, I didn’t send that idea very seriously, it’s more that in light of all the things that were happening over the last couple of months, it would make me a little nervous.” unquote. So it sounds like no, but he wouldn’t say no. So come on, Lucasfilm. Balls in your court, unless this is all a big lie? But let’s just deal with facts and not rumours.

Some more sad news to report actor Alan Harris has passed away after a battle with lung cancer. His career mostly was as an extra or stand in. But he is known to Star Wars fans as the bounty hunter Bossk in the Empire Strikes Back, he was also a security guard on Bespin. Over his career he showed up in the Living Daylights, Doctor Who, Top Secret!, Return of the Jedi, . Flash Gordon, The Shining, Superman: The Movie, Return of the Jedi and The Avengers among others usually uncredited. He was 81 years old.

Lethal Weapon 5 is now in development. According to It Chapter Two producer Dan Lin it will be the last one. Speaking with the Hollywood reporter an Said quote , “I’m going to knock on wood, because I don’t want to jinx myself, but we’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie, and Dick Donner’s coming back,” Lin told The Hollywood Reporter. “The original cast is coming back, and it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel [Gibson] and Danny [Glover] are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”

Actor Orson Bean has passed away after being hit by two cars while walking in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles. Orson, who was originally born Dallas Frederick Burrows in 1928 began acting in 1952 on the Goodyear Television Playhouse. Episode 63: Parasite sucks The Joker’s Oscars away

Tonight! Owen Wilson might be coming to an MCU show near you, Wonder Woman has a new weapon and who won the Oscars much more on this edition of Multiverse Tonight!

Greetings and welcome to the comics edition of Multiverse Tonight.  Episode 62.

So did you watch the Oscars this past Sunday. It was…okay. There were a few surprises  like Eminem , the fact that Joker didn’t sweep the awards and John Williams not winning. Really thought that Mister Williams should have won. Anyway, if you missed it apparently you’re not alone, the Oscars Viewership sank to a new low this year. And I’ve noticed a lot of the usual complaints. Lack of diversity in the acting categories. Too much politics. Which is surprising because there weren’t a lot of big moments of politics, a few speeches, maybe not as much as a few years ago. Too long? Eh. It was about three and a half hours. Pretty typical. I could shorten it by not having the best songs all performed during the course of the evening, but having them shown in clips or maybe a medley of some kind?  Maybe no confusing performances by Eminem? I’ve also seen some complaints about how so and so was missing from the In Memoriam section. Folks, they only have so much time to do that and a lot of people can die in the course of the year and it’s not just actors, it’s all members of the Motion Picture Association of America. Plus, some of these people will be remembered at other award shows. Just as long as YOU remember them, that’s the important part.

Marvel

Rick And Morty are known to exist in multitudes of universes on the show, but did you know they exist in other franchises universes? Or rather the show does,  In Marvel’s Marauders number six, Rick and Morty gets a mention when Yellowjacket mentions that Pyro has quote made himself a couple of Long Island iced teas and now he’s in the yacht’s movie theater watching Rick and Morty.” unquote  Well that makes me wonder, Oni Press currently makes the Rick and Morty comics, perhaps Marvel and Oni can come together for a Marvel/Rick & morty crossover? Anyone wanna start a tweet hashtag for that?

Marvel Comics will have a new wanna be Captain America character in its upcoming Falcon & Winter Soldier miniseries.  The Natural is described as a Captain America superfan vigilante who will pose a threat to the duo. Falcon and Winter Soldier writer Derek Landy told comic book dot com quote “In combat, no matter how good you are, there will always be someone better than you,””Someone who’s stronger, or quicker, or who’s trained that little bit more. Even someone who’s luckier. That’s where the Natural came from — that fear in a fighter’s mind that, maybe, their next opponent will be the one to outclass them.” Artist Federico Vicentini added quote “He wants to be Captain America, his idol, his hero, but he does that from the wrong side of the barricade, unaware of his mistakes,” “Bucky and Sam will have to do their best to show him what it really means to be Captain America. For his costume I tried to keep some details from Cap’s old one (the boots, for example), but I also added something new, like the black logo on his chest and mask, to point out the dark traits of his behavior.” Unquote

Falcon and winter Soldier number one comes out on February 26.

Actor Owen Wilson is in talks to join Disney Plus’ Loki series according to sources close to the Hollywood reporter. What character he possibly could be playing is unknown. Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron is writing the plot for the show and will be acting as show creator and executive producer.

While we don’t have a release window for the series yet, The Falcon and The WinterSoldier will be coming in August and WandaVision will debut in December.

Fast 9 star  Tyrese Gibson gave an update on his character in Sony’s Morbius and how the film is progressing. Tyrese will be playing Agent Shroud. He told Comic book dot com at the F9 event in Miami quote “I play a character named Agent Shroud, Agent Simon Shroud, opposite Jared Leto. It’s the Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius, Venom, Marvel. I’m just excited to be a part of this franchise. I love the Fast & the Furious but I’ve been wanting to be a part of another franchise. Because, the last time I was in a franchise was Transformers, which is not too shabby.” unquote

Fast and Furious, Transformers. Well he does have a knack for being in successful franchises. Could Tyrese rub off on the extended Spider-man franchise?

Sooner or later the X-Men movie franchise will get rebooted, so what advice would former Cyclops actor James Marsden give to the next man who fills the role, Collider, talking with Marsden while he’s promoting Sonic The Hedgehog gave some quote The biggest challenge was that, the audience and other actors never being able to see your eyes. Definitely was a handicap in bringing a persona to the character, and an energy to the character. To a character who is also very, by nature, very by-the-books. Kind of a Boy Scout, ‘do the right thing.’ He’s a foil to Wolverine’s character, who is more fly by the seat of his pants, a little more unpredictable, and aggressive.

I would just say lean into it. Own it. And carve out your own thing. The fans of the books are going to tell you ‘it needs to be this’. Find a new way to make it interesting. Because it is tough to like get something interesting and cool and different across when no one ever sees your eyes. Which is obviously, you know, the main part of the character.” unquote

DC

Well Arrow is officially done. However it kind of looks like a lot of people said goodbye earlier than others. The Ratings for the final episode are out. 723,000 tuned in to the episode, which was an almost 20 percent drop from the week before. It also wasn’t helped by the fact that it wa moved back an hour for an arrow special. Plus, who watches tv shows when they’re actually on anyway, that’s so twentieth century.

The Batman has begun principal photography and we now know what role actres Jayme Lawson is playing in the movie. Business Wire lists her as Candida Bella real. Since there is no character in known batman lore by that name, she is either a new character that plays some role in the film or that character’s name is false and she is actually playing another role. Some suggestions have been Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl.  So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this pans out.

We are also learning that Peter Skarsgaurd will be playing the role of Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson, which is…you guessed it. Another name that has no known usage in the DCU. Could it be a new character or a different character, who knows.  NEXT.

On comics news, Scott Snyder has given Wonder Woman a new weapon. The writer posted on his twitter  a link to a Newsarama article showing Wonder Woman wielding a chainsaw-like device. Scott added quote It’s called the chainsaw of truth quote The weapon will show up in the sequel to Dark Knight Metal. Not much is known about the new series only that quote “the mayhem is imminent.” unquote

In John Constantine: Hellblazer number four, John Constantine gets introduced to Tommy Willowtree a street mage who’s been guarding Endland from mystickal threats since Constantine’s been away causing a new era of peace in London using white magic. Tonny is quote “a gentleman, a scholar, a clean-living, vegan acolyte of love.” unquote In other words every thind Constantine isn’t and that’s something that John can’t stand. Unfortunately, Constantine is gonna have to suck it up and team with him.

John Constantine Hellblazer number four will have new artist Matias Bergara taking over for Aaron Campbell joining writer Simon Spurrier and colorist Jordie Bellaire. It’s coming to comic stores on February twenty sixth.

Writer artist Any reeder will be bringing a new character to the DC Universe in her upcoming Amethyst series. In an interview with CBR.com She said quote “I can’t wait for everyone to meet Phoss. Creating new characters is always on my radar; it’s fun and necessary to keep things fresh. I got a chance to do this at Marvel with Moon Girl, and I’m so glad she took off the way she did. For the sake of this miniseries Phoss is tied to Gemworld only, but I would love if she really takes off into the general DCU. Is it strange that I haven’t thought about that yet?””Phoss is the first new teen friend Amy makes, a commoner from Turquoise, the warrior realm,” “She’s maybe a little too easy going, and too honest, but she’s a great foil to Princess Amethyst and keeps her grounded. Oh and no biggie, but Phoss is a lesbian animal lover with four forearms and she rides a giant caterpillar named Stan. WHATEVER. Anyway, the strength of friendship is a major element to the story, so you’ll see a lot of Phoss and that other upcoming character, Maxixe.

Amethyst is not a new character, she was created by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn and Earnie Colon of 1983’s Legion of SuperHeroes issue 298. Where the character otherwise known as Amy Winston discovered that she was a princess of the House of Amethyst on Gemworld. Here’s the plot quote Following her triumphant reintroduction in the pages of Young Justice, the new Amethyst miniseries follows teenager Amy Winston—a.k.a. Princess Amethyst—as she returns to her magical kingdom to celebrate her 16th birthday in style. The only problem? Her kingdom is missing, her subjects have vanished, and none in the realm of Gemworld—even her best friend, Lady Turquoise—remain loyal to her house! Alone and dejected, Amy’s forced to find new allies and confront dark secrets on an all-new quest to the farthest reaches of Gemworld. Unquote

Amethyst #1 releases Feb. 26.

Comic writer Steve Orlando is stepping out. The writer who has been working for DC Comics for the past four years is moving away from the Distinguished Competition. To a number of other publishers. To mark the end of his contract he had an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

It’s a good interview. When asked why he signed exclusively with DC he said quote

I mean, look, I grew up as a DC guy. I was, you know, knocked over when they offered me that contract after Midnighter. And of course it’s nice to have that reliability and a home for most of your work. But I mean, you know, young Steve, who is reading DC books out of flea markets in the 1980s and early ’90s, you know, it’s a dream job. And by the way, working for DC’s still a dream job.

You know, when you’re an adult, you realize that dreams have to evolve and change. So at the time, you know, there was no way that I would stay away from that, because it’s like playing for the Yankees. (Laughs) So of course I would take it. And it’s still a company that I have, and characters that I continue to have, great affection for.

I’m excited to continue on Wonder Woman for that reason. These are icons, and to be asked to become a lasting part of those things, you know, it’s an honor, it’s a huge responsibility, and there’s just no way I wouldn’t do that. Unquote

In other words, he’s not leaving DC completely, he’s just going to be a free agent.

He also announced that he will be working with TKO, Studio Arancia and for his prose work with Fuse Literary.

Birds of Prey is flying in a little lower than expected in its opening weekend. The movie only debuted to a Friday box office of 33 to 35 million. Warner bros had been aiming for a 45 to 50 million dollar opening. There could be several factors for this including its r rating causing the younger kids from seeing the movie, it’s february opening date or something else. However, it’s ratings and reviews can’t be blamed as it’s gotten largely positive.

BOX OFFICE REPORT

Geek

Could a new Green Hornet movie be in the offing?  The Green Hornet movie rights have been acquired by Amasia Entertainment a company run by former Marvel Studios President Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo. In a statement Helfant said quote “This is one of the only stand-alone classic superhero franchises,” “We’re a bunch of fan geeks at Amasia and are thrilled about creating something fresh and truly worthy of this legacy property. A new world that is relevant and thrilling, while respecting and honoring the original vision.”“When I was a kid, The Green Hornet was one of my favorite television series,” he added. “I loved everything about it: the Green Hornet, Kato, and of course, the Black Beauty. They were the coolest! It was personally painful to leave them all behind when I left Dimension. So I tried to option the property again at Marvel before it went over to Sony, and then again in 2017 before the rights landed at Paramount.” unquote The rights have been bouncing from studio to studio for years now. The last time it was made into anything was 2011’s The Green Hornet starring Seth rogen, which did poorly.

Speaking of projects that might come again. The Crow is back in active development. According to Bloody Disgusting.com, Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow’s planned reboot of The Crow might be moving forward after nearly eighteen months of no movement. The reboot had originally been planned for release in October of last year, but development fell apart in Summer of 2018 when star Jason Mamoa and director Corin Hardy left the project causing Sony Pictures to pull it. So far no new director or actor has surfaced.

Ron Howard has given an update on Disney Plus’ Willow series. Ron talked to Variety about the project, quote “We’re working on it, it’s not greenlit, but I was just on the phone today discussing it with Jonathan who has written the scripts,” “It’s in serious development, but there’s nothing to announce quite yet.” unquote Ron also confirmed that talks are ongoing for Willow star warwick davis to return. Saying quote “If it happens, Warwick will definitely be a part of it,”

Disney Pixar’s new movie Onward has a lawsuit on its hands. The Hollywood reporter reports that artist Sweet Cecily Daniher is suing Onward producer Kori Rae over the design on the van driven by the movie’s main characters.  Her design called Vanicorn shows a white unicorn in front of a blue and purple sky with bolts of lightning extending behind it. In the movie the characters van shows a white Pegasus in front of a blue and purple sky with lightning bolts in the background.

According to Daniher, Disney contacted her to use Vanicorn as a showpiece for a festival . Not long after, she noticed the similarity and pointed it out online.

Onward producer Kori Rae apologized for not making her aware there were plans to use the Vanicorn design in the movie because, at the time of the festival, the movie didn’t have a title and without a title Disney couldn’t have Daniher sign a non disclosure agreement.

Ms. Daniher is now suing Disney for Copyright infringement as well as violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the visual Artists rights act and the California Artists Protection Act. Onward hits theaters on March sixth.

Parasite walked away with four sucking the awards away from the front runner Joker, It won best director for Bong Joon Ho, Best original screenplay for Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won and both best picture and best international picture. Marking the first time a forign film won the best picture award.

Joaquin Phoenix won best actor for Joker, Taika Waititi won best adapted screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. Toy Story 4 won for best animated feature film. And I was hoping randy Newman or John Williams would have won this catergory but Best Original score went to Joker’s Hildur Guðnadóttir (pronounced Hill-dur Guth-nah-door-tier).  If I pronounced that right, please donate a dollar. Thank you.

Archie Comics Editor in Chief Victor Gorelick has passed away.  An announcement was made on the Archie Comic twitter account this past Saturday.Quote  “We are extremely heartbroken and devastated to inform the Archie family of the passing of Archie Comics icon and Editor in Chief, Victor Gorelick, who made Riverdale his home for over sixty years,” the statement read. “No person embodied the Archie spirit more than Victor, who was a leader, friend, and mentor to everyone that walked through the doors of Archie. A lifelong friend and mentor to Archie Comics Co-CEO, Jon Goldwater – and an inspiration to the entire Archie Comics family – Victor will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Kathie, his family, his friends, and his many fans.” Gorelick first joined Archie Comics when he was 16 as an art assistant over the years he picked up skills and moved up the ladder until he was named editor in chief in 2007.
